Yesterday, Volkswagen officially unveiled the ID. Buzz electric vehicle (EV). Essentially a reimagining of the brand’s popular Microbus/Kombi of yesteryear, it’s reborn as a sleek, zero-emission minivan.
But in addition to having the capacity to carry many passengers, the new ID. Buzz can also move a lot of luggage. That’s right, Volkswagen also released a van version of the EV. Appropriately named the ID. Buzz Cargo, the van looks like the regular ID. Buzz. However, one will immediately notice that there are no sliding doors on the side.
Indeed, just behind the front seats is a generous 3.9 cubic meters (or 3,900 liters) of cargo space. Complemented by a long wheelbase of 2988mm, Volkswagen claims the ID. Buzz Cargo can carry two loaded Euro pallets, loaded transversely. With this amount of real estate, the ID. Buzz Cargo has the ability to haul a lot of stuff, hassle-free.
Like the van version, the cargo variant is driven by a single electric motor which powers the rear axle. It generates 201 PS with 310 Nm of torque and is powered by an 82.0 kWh lithium-ion battery.
For now, the ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo is expected to hit European markets later this year. In future, Volkswagen will also offer the ID. Buzz in North American markets.
