Tom Arnold claims he and NeNe Leakes were hired by the creators of “The Wendy Williams Show” to co-host their own daytime talk show. However, the deal fell through due to a purse feud between Wendy Williams and Nene Leakes.

The 63-year-old former ‘Roseanne’ star says that after a few appearances on Williams’ show, he “connected” with the producers and came up with the idea. He said PageSix“The reason they approached me was because they had seen me play ‘Wendy’, and I had a great time. The goal was to have [our show] continue right after “The Wendy Willams Show”. And I said, ‘Oh, that sounds good! Let’s get together.’ And then we did.”

The “Wendy” show was “killed” at the time, and the producers were “jazzed” by the proposal, according to Arnold, who claimed they “thought it would be a home run.” Arnold said: “I was like, ‘With someone like NeNe Leakes, how can you go wrong there? And then I realized how wrong you are – making fun of someone’s purse.”

Arnold claimed the ‘purse’ happened in 2014 after the 54-year-old ‘Real Housewives of Atlanta’ star showed off her hand-painted Hermès Birkin bag decorated with ‘NeNe-isms’ made popular on the Bravo program, including ‘So Nasty and So Rude,’ ‘Bloop,’ and ‘Shut Your Legs to Married Men.’

Williams took to the handbag and tweeted, “Hot Question: What do you think of @NeNeLeakes defacing her Birkin bag?”. Shortly after, the 57-year-old former radio personality deleted the tweet, but not before Leakes learned of the dubious “Hot Topics” segment. Arnold believes she responded with a derogatory blog post, which cost them their show.

In a fit of fury, Leakes wrote at the time: “Wendy, I’m sure people think I did something to you, maybe we had a prank or I slept with your man, but none of that is true! I actually gave you a beautiful $3,200 black Celine Phantom bag to celebrate your 500th show but you didn’t mention it! But what you you chose to do is constantly talk negative about me and lie to me! What you need to do is stop spitting hate! When it comes to gossip, you are the lowest stockings!”

Leakes added, “I know you hate it because I refused to be on your talk show and I’m sure you’re scared I’m taking your place (I know you heard! Ummhmm wink) BE AFRAID I have a clothing line on HSN coming out in a few days and I know it must be hard for a black woman to support another black woman but you should give it a try someday.”

Leakes also mentioned that the bag was covered in paint to “raise money for a worthy charity,” which she thought Williams should have mentioned to the public. She wrote: “I don’t have one Birkin, I have five now, say this WIG.”

Arnold revealed that after having “big meetings” with one of the producers, he soon got a call from them. “She called me and said, ‘I have bad news. We can’t do the show. And I said, ‘Why?’ And she said, “Because NeNe made fun of Wendy Williams’ handbag.” And I say, ‘Who would care if someone laughed at their purse?’ And the producer said, “Black women care.” She explained to me that it was something very personal,” he said.

The circumstance, which the actor acknowledged as “a revelation”, was one he hoped to explore in the first episode of their program. The leaks, however, seemed “unrepentant”. He explained, “You know, what they loved about NeNe is that she’s outspoken, like Wendy Williams,” and said he would “absolutely” try the part again. “[NeNe] is fun and she’s smart and she has a lot to say. I don’t know how you could do better with a co-host,” he added.

Arnold speculated that Williams may have “felt competitive with NeNe too, which is good because everyone’s competitive. But I guess the best way to get rid of your competition is to get them fire.” On the “Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef” podcast, Arnold first discussed the talk show on Wednesday. He said: “Wendy Williams was very powerful in this business, and Wendy Williams was like, ‘If they come, I’m leaving. I leave if they come. “”

Leakes told Page Six that once she responded to Williams’ comments, the production company, Debmar-Mercury, “withdrew the deal and stopped all communication”, confirming that “there was some real ” in Arnold’s account. She said, “Our deal is dead.”
