SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLAAuthorities are looking for four suspects involved in an attempted armed robbery in Sherman Oaks in the early hours of Wednesday morning in which they allegedly followed a man to his home and then opened fire on him.

The attempted theft occurred just after 3 a.m. outside a house in the 14000 block of Valley Vista Boulevard, a few blocks south of Ventura Boulevard.

The house and vehicle that were targeted in the incident are registered in the name of actor and TV host Terrence Jenkins, better known as Terrence J.

“This is the second time this has happened,” neighbor Rouhel Feinstein told CBSLA on Wednesday. “It happened to him about four months ago, he was robbed here too in the same house”

According to Los Angeles Police, four male suspects in a silver Jeep Cherokee followed the victim to his house, pulled over behind him and attempted to rob him at gunpoint. At least one of the suspects carried a gun.

When the victim fled, suspects chased him and opened fire on Sepulveda Boulevard and Moorpark Street, police said. The victim was not hit. He called a California Highway Patrol officer for help, and the suspects took off.

The victim was not injured. It was not immediately clear where he was being followed.

The four suspects were only described as black men. There was no immediate word as to whether footage of part of the first attempted theft or shooting was caught by security cameras in the area.

A man and woman were seen leaving the Sherman Oaks home about an hour after the attempted robbery and shooting, but did not speak to reporters.

This all comes after the LAPD issued a community alert on Monday warning Angelenos of the continuing trend in “home theft” crime.

“People have to be aware of their surroundings,” said Sgt. Hector Olvera from LAPD. “Especially when you go out to nightclubs, restaurants, what’s the matter. It seems the suspects are targeting people with expensive jewelry, expensive cars, things of that nature. “

Police have listed areas such as Melrose Avenue and the LA Jewelry District, as well as upscale nightclubs and restaurants, as the places of origin of the crimes.

On Melrose Avenue in the Fairfax neighborhood, there has been a spate of thefts in recent months, ranging from employees detained at gunpoint, to diners stolen while they were eating, with even a victim shot dead outside a shoe store in August.

“People have to be aware of their surroundings, especially when leaving nightclubs, restaurants and everything in between,” said LAPD Sgt. Hector Olivera told CBSLA on Wednesday. “And it appears the suspects are targeting victims who have expensive jewelry, expensive cars, and things of that nature.”

On October 27, the home in Encino of Dorit Kemsley, star of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills”, was robbed at gunpoint. Security footage of the flight was released on Monday. Police said two suspects broke a sliding glass door and entered Kemsley’s home while she and her children were inside. Holding her at gunpoint, they reportedly threatened to kill her. They stole high-end handbags, jewelry and watches. A third suspect, the fleeing driver, then encountered the other two in a black van before fleeing.
