Tampa International Airport unveils the first “curbside express” concept in the United States in two weeks.

What’s new: The Blue Express Curbside lanes, between the long-stay garage and the main terminal, will allow passengers with a digital ticket and hand luggage to jump on a dedicated escalator from November 16.

  • The new express route avoids the chaos of baggage at the curb and traffic jams at the counters to get passengers directly to the boarding shuttles.

Why is this important: The eight express lanes – four for arrivals, four for departures – will allow the airport to increase capacity as it COVID-delayed construction start approaching on runway D.

  • Arriving passengers who have not checked in baggage no longer need to descend into the baggage claim area and can instead take an escalator to their journey.

What they say : “It’s part of the history of airport legacy and innovation, these borders,” Jeff Siddle, TIA vice president of planning and design. told the Tampa Bay Business Journal. “They will be the first anywhere in the United States at any airport.
