CHICAGO – For the second year in a row, a team from Chicago will take part in a regular season game in Dyersville, Iowa as part of a new tradition for Major League Baseball.
As the Cubs prepare to take on the Reds in Thursday’s Field of Dreams game, they will also be getting new uniforms to wear for the occasion.
The league has released both teams’ jerseys and hats that will be worn when they take to the field Thursday night at 6:15 p.m., each sporting sports uniforms inspired by designs from a century ago.
According to the Baseball Hall of Fame, the uniforms the Cubs will wear are similar to those they wore from 1927 to 1936 at home, featuring the red “C” with the bear holding a bat.
As for the hats, the design is based on what the club wore during the 1914 season
Meanwhile, Cincinnati’s uniforms featured the look they had on their jerseys from 1914 to 1920, including their World Series champions in 1919. The movie “Field of Dreams” features the team they beat at the Fall Classic this season: the Chicago White Sox and “Shoeless Joe” star Jackson.
He was among eight players permanently banned from MLB due to their role in the “Black Sox” gambling scandal that surrounded the World Series that year.
Both teams enter the game amid tough seasons, as the Cubs are currently last in the National League Central Division with a 43-64 record. At 44-63, the Reds are currently one game better than the Cubs as they sit in third place in the NL Central.
