Luis De Javier unveils the first ready-to-wear collection exclusively for Selfridges – Rain

LDJ x Selfridges

Spanish-born fashion designer based in London Luis de Javier unveils its first ready-to-wear collection exclusively for the British luxury retailer Selfridges & Co.which will be available in the Oxford Street flagship store and online from September 27, 2022.

With tailor-made couture pieces worn by Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Cardi B and Rihanna among other things, this capsule collection of gender-neutral ready-to-wear marks the first time that De Javier’s designs have become widely available for purchase, the brand’s fearless sensuality and bold silhouettes distilled into wearable and accessible pieces for clients.

The Subway

A love letter to queer culture and the underground night scene that have shaped the brand’s DNA since its inception, the first playful and sex-positive ready-to-wear collection showcases Luis De Javier’s hallmarks in material of vegan leather, tailoring and shameless sexuality. a range of jackets, corsets, mini dresses and trousers, offered in a signature palette of black, white and red, with additional pieces in striking yellow and nude also introduced.

Queerness, fashion and club culture

Creating work that celebrates the intersection of homosexuality, fashion and club culture, Luis De Javier envisions a hedonistic future, populated by creatures with sharp shoulders and cinched waists – a kind of armor that transcends gender and sexuality, encouraging wearers to be stronger, bolder and less afraid to speak out. The collection is presented in Selfridges Level 3 Designer Studio in a bespoke display with tiled walls and a soap dispenser, reminiscent of the club bathrooms where many of the ideas for the collection were born.

It was a new challenge to create ready-to-wear while remaining faithful to the spirit and the message of the brand. I’m constantly inspired by my community, so naturally I want the people who feed me to make these clothes to be able to buy and wear them. This is what brings me joy at the end of the day: dressing these people, so that they feel beautiful and free. This collection was therefore about taking the brand’s DNA and translating it into very wearable pieces.
