The BAA does not implement security policies. Anything you attempt to bring into a secure area, despite the descriptions below, is subject to the discretion of law enforcement officials. Permitted Items One gallon clear plastic bag to carry sports food or drink only. This bag is subject to search. (only one transparent plastic bag per runner). This one gallon clear plastic bag will be permitted on official buses to Hopkinton. This bag will be provided in your participant kit, or you can use your own one-gallon bag. Waist bag (no more than 5 inches x 15 inches x 5 inches) for carrying food, nutritional products, medicine, ID, cell phone, house/hotel key or other small similar and necessary items (only one waist bag per rider). “Fuel belt” of standard manufacture (bottles must be 1 liter or less). Armband, which can hold a cell phone or a small camera. The use of headphones is discouraged but permitted. Additional layers of clothing may be worn on the BAA shuttles and in Hopkinton to warm up before the race. Clothing that will not be worn during the race should be discarded in Hopkinton and will be donated to a local charity. Prohibited Items Personal hydration system products (such as CamelBak®, Thor®, etc.). Weighted vests or any type of vest with pockets or water bladders. Firearms, knives or any object that can be used as a weapon. Backpacks, any similar item worn over the shoulder, or handbags of any size. Props (including sports, military and fire equipment/equipment and signs or flags* larger than 11 inches x 17 inches). Glass containers. Any container that can hold more than one liter of liquid. The use of selfie sticks or similar items is prohibited during the Boston Marathon race. Strollers, including baby strollers. Suitcases & wheeled bags. Face-covering costumes or non-tight, bulky outfits extending beyond the perimeter of the body. Any item over 5 inches x 15 inches x 5 inches. Folding chairs. *Note – Flags cannot be on a pole more than 15 inches in length Action Cameras The BAA discourages the carrying of action cameras such as GoPros while racing at the Boston Marathon. All Boston Marathon images captured by participants or spectators are for personal use only. Personal use means non-commercial use of these images only. Any Boston Marathon footage for personal use will not include any distribution for the purpose of charging money, collecting fees or receiving any form of compensation. Boston Marathon images for personal use are not to be used for publicity purposes and are not to be resold, relicensed, or sublicensed. The Boston Athletic Association shall not be liable for any third party claims or incidental, consequential or other damages arising from such personal use of Boston Marathon footage. Any Boston Marathon footage may not infringe any rights held by existing BAA sponsors and/or partners, including any footage captured for personal use that is posted on social media or any video hosting platform. The use of “selfie” sticks or similar items is prohibited during the Boston Marathon race. Anyone who violates Boston Marathon footage policies will be subject to licensing fees and possible disqualification.

Action cameras

The BAA discourages the wearing of action cameras such as GoPros while running the Boston Marathon.

All Boston Marathon images captured by participants or spectators are for personal use only.

Personal use means non-commercial use of these images only.

Any Boston Marathon footage for personal use will not include any distribution for the purpose of charging money, collecting fees or receiving any form of compensation.

Boston Marathon images for personal use are not to be used for publicity purposes and are not to be resold, relicensed, or sublicensed.

The Boston Athletic Association shall not be liable for any third party claims or incidental, consequential or other damages arising from such personal use of Boston Marathon footage.

Any Boston Marathon footage may not infringe any rights held by existing BAA sponsors and/or partners, including any footage captured for personal use that is posted on social media or any video hosting platform.
