Lafayette 148 Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Recently, the creative director of Lafayette 148, Emily Smith, discovered that the brand’s original building at 148 Lafayette Street housed a printing press before being a garment factory. “I took it as inspiration to build this idea of paper and what we could do with it, and interpret it through clothing,” Smith said during a date at the flagship store. brand on Greene Street in SoHo.

It turns out that paper is a great inspiration for clothes. A brown paper bag inspired a crinkle linen-blend trench coat. The colorful tissue paper was evident in a simple sleeveless change made of two layers of silk, one pink and one light beige, shown with a pair of white sheer pants, and another in shades of citrine yellow, which also captured the undercurrent of ’90s minimalist looks seen elsewhere in the last fashion week.

A shaggy cotton crochet sweater and cardigan was reminiscent of shredded paper; a white cotton pleated dress could have its roots in origami and would make a beautiful wedding dress for a tropical bride. The centerpieces of the collection were a short-sleeved button-up shirt in pleated leather (ha!) and matching pants, and a green pleated blouse with curved sleeves and a matching skirt that was elegant in its form and bold in its choice of Color.

“I just believe a modern woman is so busy and wants things that she can wear in and out of different things,” Smith explained. She has created a tightly edited collection of beautiful, modern and wearable pieces that are likely to go long-term in any woman’s wardrobe. You can’t really ask for more than that.
