DALLAS – DFW International Airport travelers are probably giving the best advice after encountering several issues while trying to get to their destination. The vacation travel season has been a headache for some people traveling domestically and internationally.

Louisiana resident Robert Bethard and his wife have plans for a ski vacation with their kids and family friends. But the start of their vacation did not go as planned. The couple sat calmly in the baggage claim area of ​​DFW, knowing it’s a waiting process.

“At 6:30 am we landed in Dallas,” Bethard said. “I guess we all worried about each other and we’re calm now.”

Bethard and his wife headed to the airport on Sunday morning in Louisiana with temperatures in the 70s. They have a destination where the temperatures will be anything but warm, so they packed a lot of winter clothes for their family vacation. .

After their flight was canceled, he learned that their luggage was missing.

“There is all of our ski clothes,” said Bertrand.

Airlines attribute cancellations and delays nationwide to skyrocketing omicron COVID cases across the country. They have fewer employees to work on airline flights and, in some cases, check-in counters at airports across the country.

The impact on travel plans is worse for Kim Cook and his crew. They waited hours to find their luggage after learning they were grounded for a while.

Cook began traveling to Philadelphia on Sunday morning in hopes of getting to Denver.

“We had our first flight and it was fine. Our second flight, as soon as we arrived we found out it was canceled,” Cook said. “We have five people in our party, and they have no option for us until Tuesday.”

So while they wait for their airline to find all of their luggage, their days in Denver will have to wait as well.

Since they are forced to stay in North Texas for two days, Cook has decided not to lose him. American Airlines pays for its crew’s two-night stay at a Dallas hotel.

“We’re going to go see the sights in Dallas. Two of the people haven’t been to Dallas, so we’re going to check it out,” Cook said.

Much like Bertrand, Cook urges anyone who currently travels to plan ahead when traveling by plane.

“Check the airline and make sure you get a supervisor number for the airline you’re on,” Cook said.
