Chicago (CBS) – He has helped solve murders and unsolved cases. Today, prominent community activist Andrew Holmes is helping police catch his brother, who has been accused of assaulting scores of Chicagoans.
Now, this famous Chicago community activist has helped capture his own brother.
Stephen Graves of CBS2 explained to him why he had led the police to his brother.
Andrew Holmes said he believed what was wrong was wrong, even if it meant holding the family accountable.
“We are close and not bitter,” he said. “When you have evidence here, when I look at you, and when I look at you, I come to get you.”
He mentions a video from a doorbell camera which he says shows his brother Eric Holmes stealing luggage.
The video shows him walking to the porch and sitting down. Walk later and pick up the bag.
“These are people’s personal belongings. They paid for these upcoming items, ”said Andrew Holmes.
He said Auburn Gresham’s neighbor recognized his brother. Last summer I called one after another saying I had done the same for other people.
“I said, ‘Yeah, I have to stop this,’ Andrew Holmes said.
He did exactly that, and called a detective from the Chicago Police Department last month to pick up his brother. Andrew Holmes’ usual job of finding a murder suspect and helping comfort a sad family has been put on hold due to the family business.
“Just because you’re my brother doesn’t mean you’re right,” he said. “I had to catch it. I had to take him off the street and ask for help.
This is not the first time that Eric Holmes has had a legal problem. The new arrest came a month after he was detained for a similar crime and was charged with stealing baggage from the US Postal Service mail truck in July by smashing a side window with a stone. ..
Police said he was caught in a sports bag full of stolen goods, from shirts and jeans to coasters.
Andrew Holmes said his brother suffered from drug addiction and it was an effort to save him from more uncontrollable laws and even killed him.
“Who is the best person to find relatives? They are relatives. You know how to find them. You know how to get them. Stop, he said.
Andrew Holmes said he hopes this will motivate those closest to him to take action and seek help from their families.
Eric Holmes is currently facing criminal theft in this recent arrest. He returned to court on Friday, and we are working to get the latest information on this hearing.
