Charlie Wyke looks set to move to Wigan as Celtic appear to have chosen not to sign the free agent. Echo of the North and Sunderland fan outlet Roker Report claim the player will move to Wigan Athletic in a deal worth £ 10,000.
The 28-year-old had an impressive season for Sunderland last year, accumulating 35 goals in all competitions, but was unable to help the Black Cats secure a promotion. Nottingham Forest, Millwall and Cardiff have also been linked with a move for him as he seeks to do something Sunderland has struggled to do, get out of the third tier. Although it looks like he will stay in the division, but with The Latics because they’ve probably offered him the best money to stay in the league he dominated last year.
Wyke has a reputation for being a big target, but this season has proven to be useful in front of goal. Much of the goals he scored in the 2020/21 season appeared to come from crosses, whether from the header or the end. There had been important connections between Wyke and a move to Heaven; However, in recent weeks those talks have cooled with Celtic Leigh Griffiths signing for another twelve months and Odsonne Edouard’s move to Leicester City falling apart. Celtic will look elsewhere and Wyke will move to Wigan. He was potentially worth a punt if he stayed within a certain budget and suited the manager’s style, but it’s clear Celtic let that chance slip by and probably rightly so given the salaries being discussed.
