AKRON, Ohio — Altrusa International of Akron collects new and gently used prom dresses, dress shoes and accessories for its annual Princess Night Project giveaway.
The distribution event will take place Saturday, March 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kohl Family YMCA, 477 E. Market St., Akron.
Akron’s Altrusa International gave away more than 1,900 free prom dresses as part of its Princess Night project. This year’s event will feature over 1,000 dresses to choose from, as well as dress shoes and accessories. Once registered for the event, participants can choose a dress with the help of volunteers who act as personal shopper. Seamstresses will be available during the event to perform minor alterations.
No recommendation or qualification is required to register for the event. The organization only asks the dress recipients for the name of their school and how they heard about the Princess Night Project. Masks are mandatory during the event.
Altrusa accepts donations of new or gently used prom dresses, shoes, jewelry, handbags and scarves. Donations will be accepted at the event location on Friday, March 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Donations can also be arranged by calling 330-606-5164.
