Ohio State must be ready to give the ball to Dallan Hayden against Michigan

Already once this season, the Ohio State head coach Ryan Day admitted to being stubborn at times when coaching. That may apply to the Buckeyes’ recent running back situation.

While Scarlet and Gray had two clear starting running backs heading into the season, both miyan williams and Tre Veyon Henderson have been battling injuries lately. When healthy, Williams and Henderson have proven to be one of the best running tandems in the country. Since both have dealt with injuries, however, neither has been as effective.

The player who was effective at carrying the ball for Ohio State is Dallan Hayden. In the last two games, where he replaced Williams against Indiana and Henderson against Maryland, the rookie rushed for 248 yards and four touchdowns on 46 carries. That included career highs in rushing (27), rushing yards (146) and rushing touchdowns (3) last week against Maryland.

Despite looking like the Buckeyes’ best option for running the ball lately, along with a few other positive performances this year, Day was hesitant to let Hayden be the running back unless he was forced to. do it. From what he said, Hayden might have a fumble problem in practice, although he hasn’t fumbled in eight games and 100 carries.

With a rivalry game against Michigan on Saturday determining who will represent the Big Ten East in the conference championship game, avoiding turnovers will be crucial.

“Seeing the way he stepped up last week was certainly great and encouraging as we go into this week of rivalry,” Day said of Hayden this week. “And great to see him taking care of football. That’s the first thing we need. So he’ll have to have a good week of training and I know he’s going to prepare hard to be ready to play in this. match.

In the first four games of the season, the duo of Williams and Henderson worked well for the Scarlet and Gray. Ohio State running backs have combined for more than 104 yards and nearly a touchdown per game in early contests this year. But then injuries started to hit and the Buckeyes have had both running backs available for basically one game since.

Besides a blowout victory against Toledo, where the running back made his first 100-yard game, Hayden was more of an afterthought as Scarlet and Gray’s third or fourth running back. Only 11 of Hayden’s runs so far this season have come in the first half of games.

But through 11 games, Hayden has proven to be as impactful as any other running back at Ohio State. He averages five yards per carry, compared to 6.7 for Williams and 5.3 for Henderson, but that number increases to 5.55 in games when he receives 10 or more carries. He has five rushing touchdowns, just one behind Henderson, and found the end zone in every game where he was asked to carry a heavier load.

The question many Buckeye fans asked last week was why it took until almost the second half a week ago – Hayden had a second quarter postponement – before Day moved on from a Henderson clearly not 100% in the first year. The result of that change was a 13-10 deficit with 28 rushing yards at halftime turning into a 44-30 win with 160 rushing yards.

So is it worth considering a healthier Hayden compared to the state in which Williams and Henderson are heading into the biggest game of the year against the Wolverines?

“I think it’s definitely worth discussing,” Day said. “I mean, I think when you put on the movie, and the movie speaks for itself, you have to decide who’s the best guy right now to go out there.”

According to Day, Scarlet and Gray will assess the running back situation throughout the week. After Williams missed the final game after a first-half start two weeks ago and Henderson played just one snap in the second half on Saturday, Ohio State is hoping the two best guards in the team will be available against Maize and Blue.

“It’s not like it’s the start of the season. These guys are experienced,” Day said of Williams and Henderson. “So I think at the start of the year you’d be like, ‘Well, if they haven’t been training all week, it’s going to be tough for them to play in the game.’ We would like them to train and we will plan for them to train but if they are lacking a bit here and there to be healthy to play in the game then we will adjust accordingly but these are veteran players who have played a lot of football.

If Williams and Henderson can’t give the Buckeyes what they need, however, Day can’t be stubborn and needs to turn to Hayden as he’s proven more than capable.

Bruce was one of our state’s most respected scribes, but what strikes me are the journalists he helped mentor and develop at The Daily Advertiser.

“We are extremely fortunate to have Lori and Bruce helping us tell Louisiana’s athletic history. I can’t think of a better way to honor them and their tireless work over the years than to have them inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame.

American accessory brand Silca launches £220 performance chain wax and £180 pump – Gear

American cycling accessory brand Silca has launched a selection of new products for winter, including a new high-performance chain wax which sells for £220.

Distributed in the UK by Saddleback, Silca has just launched three new products: the Hot Wax X, the Terra high volume pump and an updated Eolo Co2 regulator.

Hot wax X

Silca’s flagship launch is the Hot Wax X, which Silca says works about 0.5 watts faster than Silca Secret Chain Blend, and also extends intervals between lubrications up to 800 km.

Silca said this new wax uses a graphene-based substance, Nanene, to deliver up to 12 watts of power savings over other waxes, which is clean to the touch and gives a string up to 18 600 miles (30,000 km) chain life.

Josh Poertner, President of Silca, said: “From our first test with Nanene, we knew that true graphene was indeed the future.

“Everything we could throw at it showed it excelled our existing technologies, and that’s saying a lot when our Secret Chain Blend Hot Wax is already considered the world’s fastest, least stubborn lubricant, independently tested. by many third-party labs, including ZeroFrictionCycling and Tour Magazin Germany.

But the hot wax will cost customers a pretty penny, priced at £220 for 300g in the UK.

Terra Pump

Terra Pump

Silca has also announced an update to its classic Terra pump, which was first introduced in 1988.

This high volume, low pressure pump for larger volume tires provides ultra-precise inflation using a non-linear gauge scale, allowing for accuracy of 0.5 psi at low pressure and 1 psi at high pressure (120psi).

A unique design allows the gauge to achieve an overall capacity of 120 psi; yet 50% of the gauge face contains 0-30psi.

Terra also features a lightweight aluminum base, sturdy gauge, ash wood handle and reversible locking aluminum chuck with purge button, for Schrader or Presta.

The Terra pump sells for £180 in the UK.

Eolo 4 Co2 regulator

Silca’s new Co2 regulator

Now in its fourth iteration, the new EOLO 4 CO2 regulator packs some interesting technology into a small T-shaped package.

The new design now comes in two flavors: Green/Grey and Red/Black, but it’s not just a change in plating as there’s a new gas flow control mechanism and new throttle attachment. valve, making it easy to control inflation and storage. RRP: £32.

TSA agent ‘shocked’ to find cat in checked luggage at JFK airport

Small pets can be great air travel companions, provided their owners follow the rules. For example, most airlines require pets to remain in carriers for the duration of their flights – and none allow them to be flown as carry-on baggage.

So when a Transportation Security Administration agent recently spotted a cat in a traveler’s luggage as it passed through the security scanner at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport, the agent was “shocked,” the TSA said Tuesday.

Lisa Farbstein, public affairs manager for the TSA, recounted the agent’s unusual discovery in an anecdote posted on Twitter. It accompanied a photo of a dark suitcase that was not fully closed. When it opened, orange hairs that Farbstein explained belonged to the animal that was eventually discovered inside.

A cat was detected in someone’s checked bag as it passed through the security scanner at John F. Kennedy International Airport, a TSA spokesperson said.

@TSA_Northeast / Twitter

“A @TSA officer was shocked to find an orange cat in a checked bag at @JFKairport after it walked through X-ray unit,” Farbstein wrote, adding that the traveler said the cat “belonged someone else in his house”.

Farbstein’s tweet ended with a pun to confirm the cat was safe and home.

“On the bright side, the cat is out of the bag and safely home,” he said.

Later, the official TSA Twitter account posted two more photos of the unlikely animal encounter. One showed the JFK airport agent opening the suitcase to find a furry creature curled up along one edge. The other was an image taken from the x-ray machine, where the bright red silhouette of a cat is clearly visible inside the luggage.

“This CATch had our baggage screening officers @JFKairport say, ‘Come on, meow! “” the account tweeted.

A cat seen on x-ray machines isn’t the most outrageous finding TSA agents have reported recently. Earlier this month, an officer on duty at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport reported a piece of carry-on baggage to security and, upon further inspection, found a hidden weapon in a raw chicken stored in luggage.

Other strange discoveries by TSA agents across the country include a confiscated chainsaw in New Orleans, a confiscated “meth burrito” in Houston, and a container of deodorant filled with bullets confiscated in New Jersey.

West Springfield company offering discounted prices on new and gently used items

WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – It’s time to fall in love with Western Massachusetts and this week we’re spotlighting Plato’s Closet in West Springfield, which is a perfect place to check out as we dive into the season holiday shopping.

Plato’s Closet in West Springfield is a retail business that buys and sells gently used and new items at a discount and now is the perfect time of year to check them out.

“It’s fun for the family and for everyone to come here and shop. You’ll find anything and everything here,” said Plato’s Closet store manager Gina Circosta.

Part of what makes Plato’s Closet so unique is the wide variety of items it sells for 50-70% off, from clothes to shoes to handbags.

“We always have new items every day. We also have gift cards available. It’s a great day for shopping, especially during the holidays,” Circosta added.

Circosta told Western Mass News that their target audience is boys and girls in their teens to mid-twenties and they have a number of name brands.

“Pretty much anything, but some of our top sellers are Lululemon, Gym Shark, American Eagle, Aerie, Nike, Uggs, Timberland, brands like that. Zara is very sexy right now,” Circosta explained.

Clothes aren’t the only hot item. You will find at Plato’s Closet that they also have a number of shoes, socks, handbags and accessories. However, if you’re not in the market to add new items to your wardrobe, you can also sell some and earn extra money right there by selling slightly used or new items. Items are priced using a computer system based on the brand and age of the item.

“We just ask you to be 18 or over with a valid ID. We review your stuff and see what we can sell in our store. It’s a same day process and it’s cash right there,” Circosta said.

Often, sellers also become buyers.

“They come here and they sell their clothes and they put them all back plus a few in the store,” Circosta noted.

Despite high inflation, Circosta said, luckily they didn’t have to raise any of their prices.

“A lot of customers are actually thrilled with the prices we have here… The prices are pretty much the same. They like to know why we’re not actually raising our prices,” Circosta said.

However, it’s not just the low prices that keep customers happy.

“Fun place, fun environment, very friendly, everyone who comes here is grateful for the customer service and the experience they have in the store,” Circosta added.

Maui trout farmer closes shop after tough year

Farming is a tough business, but lately it has been particularly difficult for John Dobovan.

In the past year alone, Hawaii’s first commercial aquaponic trout breeder navigated his small business through the massive December 2021 storm that flooded his hatchery — and that was after losing much of his income. and fell behind on rent when restaurants stopped taking orders during the pandemic.

Then an island-wide freak power outage in August left thousands dead. Three months later, Hawaiian Electric officials say they are still working to figure out what triggered the event that left 65,000 customers in Maui without power for most of the morning. Dobovan was unsure if he would be able to keep Kulahaven Farms alive after losing around 4,000 trout when the backup generator failed.

But in recent weeks things have started to look up.

John Dobovan estimates that Kulahaven Farms lost at least 4,000 trout during the August 23 power outage, enough to wipe out his business. Marina Riker/Civil Beat/2022

The workers harvested hundreds of fish a week. Demand from restaurants and other consumers is growing faster than ever – far more than the farm can meet. And now, Dobovan said, the farm is making the highest profit in its nearly seven-year history.

It made it particularly ironic, Dobovan said, that as soon as everything started to go well again, the farmer now faces what many others might consider an insurmountable obstacle. His lease is ending after the August blackout sent him back on rent again.

By the end of the year, Dobovan must now pack up all his farm equipment on the Kula property he has lived on for years, sell thousands of fish and move.

“It was a punch at the start,” he said. “But after sitting for a few minutes, I realized, ‘Well, that’s actually the universe telling me it’s time to get off my ass and build the big farm we are. able.

Dobovan’s goal has always been to move to a bigger farm – one where he could raise five to ten times more fish, build a commercial kitchen, offer farm-to-table tours and even set up a trout fishing. He also wants to start an education center as part of a dream to one day create an aquaponics training ground where his team can mentor aspiring farmers and help them start their own rainbow trout operations.

John Dobovan started Kulahaven Farms as an experimental project in May 2016. He wants to expand his farm to a bigger farm. Marina Riker/Civil Beat/2022

But Dobovan now faces one of the biggest obstacles for anyone working to feed Hawaii’s families: lack of access to land. It can be nearly impossible for local growers to raise the hundreds – or millions – of dollars needed to buy a property, and it can be just as daunting to find a landlord willing to sign a long-term lease.

In Upcountry Maui, where Dobovan ideally wants to farm due to the colder temperatures needed for trout, finding a steady water supply can also be a problem on some farmland in a place where water infrastructure development has lagged. for years. And even though Maui County recently considered expanding its farm park with an emphasis on organic farming, Dobovan said that wouldn’t help someone like him who needs to live on the land 24 hours a day. 24/7 to tend to the animals – in his case, thousands of trout.

These issues are part of a complex mix of factors that have made it much more difficult to produce more local food in Hawaii, where about 85% of the food consumed is imported. It also drives up costs. In Maui, for example, the number one reason people call 211, the service that directs people to social services ranging from rental assistance to health care resources, is that they need help. help to buy food.

“I’m really deeply concerned about Hawaii’s food security,” Dobovan said.

That’s why Dobovan ended up investing $1 million and eight years trying to figure out how to establish Hawaii’s first rainbow trout aquaponics farm, which recycles water from aquariums to grow baby watercress. organic. The farm was able to produce about 1,000 pounds of trout and 2,000 pounds of watercress per month.

It’s a sustainable source of protein and nutrient-dense green vegetables, Dobovan said, which are grown on about a third of an acre. Compared to other farms, his business also uses little water; it just replaces what evaporates from the reservoirs once they are filled, he said.

John Dobovan started Hawaii’s first rainbow trout farm. Marina Riker/Civil Beat/2022

The silver lining, Dobovan said, is that he was already speaking with a potential investor who wanted to see his business grow when he received the letter in the mail about the end of his lease. He considers this to be the end of experimental “Phase 1” – and now he is looking for a new property where he can supplement his income with other sources of income like farm tours and the possibility to cook and sell trout on site. Ideally, he wants 5-10 acres above 2,000 feet elevation so he doesn’t need to use electricity to cool the trout tanks.

“I really don’t know how to quit,” Dobovan said. “I’m on a mission.”

Handcrafted by artisans using sustainably sourced materials from Spain and Italy, Meghan’s Mini Venice bag offers a lot obsess. For me, the appeal of the bag comes down to its classic shape, go-anywhere versatility, and the fact that it *actually* zips shut. (Not sorry for the digging, bucket bags.)

Meghan isn’t DeMellier’s only royal fan, as Duchess Camilla has been spotted wearing the exact same style on numerous occasions. Pippa Middleton and Princess Beatrice have also been pictured wearing looks from previous seasons over the years.

Of course, it goes without saying that DeMellier-backed styles aren’t the only pieces to covet. The range includes a whole host of other day-to-night, all-purpose models. For myself, I can’t help but think of the beautifully simple beauty Lisbon bag. *sigh*

Spending over $300 on a bag is definitely a splurge, but it’s important to note that the royalty-approved DeMellier brand is well worth it. Also, a total bonus: for each bag purchased, the mark “funds vaccines and treatments aimed at saving the life of a child in need.” All the more reason to add a DeMellier bag to your collection!

Considering how real the Meghan Markle Effect is, now is a wise and economical time to pick up the Duchess Effect Mini Venice bag before it inevitably runs out. Still.

Twitter on life support: Musk is ruining the beloved social media platform

By Michael Haag | sports editor

Twitter is used for many things. For some, it’s an outlet for the latest news, both local and national, but it can also be a source of entertainment. Since its inception in 2006, Twitter has been an integral part of social media, and over the past decade it has gained a strong presence.

However, in recent weeks following a change in management, there is a clear downward trend regarding the application. The social media service has deteriorated, and there’s someone to thank for that: Elon Musk, the co-founder and CEO of Tesla who completed the $44 billion purchase of Twitter in late October.

What became apparent very quickly was that Musk and Twitter mix just as well as oil and water.

It was bad. Many of the company’s executives and senior officials have been fired or fired amid Musk’s anger. On top of that, the verified check is an absolute joke now.

Musk promised those who subscribed to “Twitter Blue” that they would receive the verified check. It is the same symbol that government officials, journalists and celebrities must let people know they are official figures.

Twitter Blue costs $7.99 per month, giving everyone the option to get the check verified. This encourages identity theft and trolling on the internet. Now, I’m all for memes once in a while for a quick laugh, but when my job involves sports coverage, I’d rather not have to take extra time to check whether the tweet I see is legit or not. or not.

It’s annoying and unnecessary. The good thing is that Twitter lets you click on someone’s checkmark on their profile and see if it’s because they’re a Twitter Blue follower or if they’re actually verified.

You’d think a “verified” check is self-explanatory and doesn’t need to be scrutinized, but it seems consumers need to be even more careful now.

Ever since Musk worked his way up to own Twitter, he’s always been vague about his ideals and what he’s going to bring to the app. He spouts all this free speech nonsense, but also makes it a commercial enterprise.

These don’t go together at all. Musk has to drink orange juice after brushing his teeth, because for Twitter to be completely open and free as he sees it, it would have to be nonprofit. There is no coexistence between free ideals and selling a blue check.

This is an absolute trash fire of a project so far, and maybe he has a plan for it all. Who knows? But right now it’s not looking good. Just days after taking office, Musk left Twitter’s bankruptcy in the cards, banned remote work and laid off half the staff. Some of this staff includes executives and even the CEO. He also suggested that half of social media profits come from subscriptions, which isn’t even close to a flex.

As someone in the media, I hope Musk has a plan and preserves Twitter for what it’s meant to be. Maybe in the coming weeks the app will stop losing money and get better. Twitter will either become the Tesla of social media or morph into Vine – an app that dominated before it disappeared before our eyes.

A Lizzo fan made a TikTok video asking to borrow a dress for a red carpet event. The advocacy worked.

When writer Auriel Marie found out they made the Out 100 list, they were thrilled. As part of this honor, Marie, whose pronouns are they/she, was invited to attend the Out Magazine gala in New York.

The problem? They couldn’t find anything to wear for the event. Although the majority of American women wear sizes 14 or larger, Marie said, many stores only carry sizes 12 and smaller.

They said the dresses they found in their size were either matronly or tacky. Despite the suggestions of their friends, their mother and their wife, Marie “didn’t like anything at all”.

“I was like, what do I want to look like? How do I want to feel? And I found myself in this picture of Lizzo. She was wearing this dress when she accepted her first Emmy,” Marie said. , who wrote the critically acclaimed poetry collection “Gumbo Ya Ya” in 2020 and has been widely recognized for her writings on fatphobia, blackness and queer identity. “The dress was bulky. It took up space It was sexy, but it wasn’t overtly sexy, … I was like, I want to feel like this.

Marie doesn’t consider herself “one of those people who has a weird parasocial attachment to celebrities.” But they admire Lizzo, they said, not just for her music, but also for continuing to exude confidence despite the immense backlash she’s been experiencing.

So after struggling to find a red carpet outfit, they took to TikTok — where they only had a few hundred followers — to ask Lizzo if they could borrow one of her outfits.

“I know you know what it’s like to be the biggest…in a room and all the scrutiny and hyper-visibility that comes with it,” Marie said in the TikTok video. “Because I saw you talk about it and the boldness you marked in your career helped me to go out and be bold myself. … I have to ask. Can I please please, please, please wear your dress to the 2022 Emmys?

Marie was referring to designer Giambattista Valli’s red tulle dress, which Lizzo wore when she accepted the Outstanding Competitive Program award for her show “Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.”

With the gala fast approaching, Marie – who got married last month – said she was ready to wear her wedding dress again for the gala. They didn’t expect Lizzo to respond.

But their plea went viral. Shortly after the video was posted, someone from Lizzo’s management team reached out. Marie said they initially thought the DM was a prank. The person wrote that Lizzo saw the video of Marie and forwarded it to her managers, asking them to send Marie one of her dresses.

“Apparently the dress that I love from the Emmys this year was ruined because everyone kept getting on Lizzo’s train,” Marie said. “So she [the manager] said, ‘But we found one that’s really similar.'”

Marie said Lizzo’s manager gave them the magenta tulle dress that was custom-made for Lizzo’s performance at the 2019 American Music Awards.

It was “very similar at the best of times,” Marie said, and it arrived just in time – the dress was delivered 20 minutes before they left for their flight from Atlanta to New York.

When the zipper malfunctioned, Marie said, Lizzo’s team even sent a seamstress to their New York City hotel to fix the dress in time for the gala.

“You can send me a paper bag and say Lizzo wore it to a photo shoot and I would have worn it on the red carpet then,” Marie said. “But when she [Lizzo’s manager] I said, ‘I think we can send a seamstress to your hotel,’ and I said, ‘I’m sorry, what?’ I didn’t even know there was a market for VIP seamstresses.

Marie said that aside from Lizzo’s generosity, they have a deep appreciation for her because she “boldly navigates a body that so many people are angry about.”

They described Lizzo as one of the first celebrities to shamelessly exist in a fat body.

Marie believes their experience, while “healthy”, highlights the ingrained fatphobia in society, from medical discrimination to limited options for size-appropriate clothing. They said they didn’t see many people “being nice to fat people who aren’t famous.”

“It’s a touching story, and I like it for myself. But I would love it even more if people took something like that and could see the humanity in people with different bodies,” Marie said. I shouldn’t have to ask Lizzo for a pretty dress.”

Auto accessories maker loses P53M VAT refund claim

Auto accessories maker loses P53M VAT refund claim

The Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) has denied a Lipa City-based automotive wire harness and solder plug manufacturer’s petition to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for more than 53 million pesos in tax on unused value added (VAT) payment for late filing.

The court’s first division said it did not acquire jurisdiction to decide the case because Pilipinas Kyohritsu Inc. (PKI) failed to file the case on time.

He said that Article 112 of the tax code prescribes two scenarios in which a request for tax refund must be filed in court: 30 days from receipt of the unfavorable decision of the BIR and an additional 30 days if the BIR fails to decide the case within 120 days of receiving the decision. the taxpayer’s complete supporting document.

The resolution stated that the ICP should have filed its petition with the CTA by May 12, 2014 for it to gain jurisdiction.

He added that the company should not have waited for the unfavorable decision from the BIR, which it received on March 23, 2014.

Associate Judge Catherine T. Manahan, who wrote the ruling, said filing the tax refund claim with the court on April 20, 2017 was already beyond the 120+30 day period.

“The prescription set in at the time of its filing, thus depriving the court of any jurisdiction to rule on the case,” she added.

Iberia will be strict on hand luggage

Iberia A350-900 London Business Class Review
IBeria A350-900 at Heathrow

Iberia has been ordered to be strict with the weight of hand luggage after cabin crew complained about XL size luggage bins which they would have to close. These luggage bins are much larger than usual and therefore take more bags. Since the weight of hand luggage is not imposed, Iberia’s cabin crew took the company to court to force it to say that cabin crew would not be forced to close the oversized luggage compartments.

However, the judge simply ruled that Iberia must enforce the weight limits which vary between 10kg per bag in economy class and 14kg in business class. These limits are quite generous, but worth being aware of if you’re traveling with Iberia soon. It remains to be seen whether the controls will apply to all flights which could be easier or will only be long-haul or A350 flights.

Convicted former Malaysian prime minister can claim Richard Mille watches, Hermès handbags and jewelry seized after High Court ruling

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, convicted in 1MDB bribery case, can recover thousands of jewellery, watches and handbags seized after prosecution failed to prove they were from illegal activities , according to a Malaysian court.

Najib Razak, former Prime Minister of Malaysia between 2009 and 2018 | © Budiey

The High Court in Kuala Lumpur ruled on November 14 that the Malaysian government had failed in its latest attempt to confiscate luxury items seized by police in 2018 from former Prime Minister Najib Razak in connection with the corruption case. 1MDB.

If the prosecution does not appeal, Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor will be able to recover the seven Richard Mille watches, 29 Hermès handbags and 2,435 jewels previously seized for an estimated value of 80 million ringgits (17 million dollars). ).

The Malaysian government had filed a lawsuit in 2019 seeking to confiscate assets seized during a raid on properties linked to Najib Razak. The lawsuit was filed against Obyu Holdings, the company that owns the properties; Najib Razak and the United Malayan National Organization (UMNO), Malaysia’s main political party, are third party claimants.

The government claimed that the assets had been misappropriated from 1Malaysia Development Berhad funds.

1Malaysia Development Berhad was originally a state fund created to develop the Malaysian economy. But Najib Razak has been accused along with others of using the funds to fund their lavish lifestyle. The amount stolen from 1MDB was estimated at $4.5 billion.

The scandal contributed to the loss of the coalition led by Najib Razak in the 2018 general election, after which he lost the post of prime minister he had held since 2009. The raid took place shortly after the fall of the Barisan Nasional administration, the right-wing coalition. led by the United Malayan National Organization which remained in power continuously from 1957 to 2018. Barisan Nasional returned to power in 2021.

Najib Razak was sentenced in 2020 to 12 years in prison and fined 210 million ringgit ($46 million) for abuse of power, criminal breach of trust and money laundering of a 1MDB subsidiary. The sentence was confirmed last August.

But the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled that prosecutors failed to prove that the luxury items in the bid were the proceeds of illegal activity.

Najib Razak has always maintained that his money came from a loan from a Saudi prince. The court also ruled that there was no evidence that the 3 billion ringgit ($653 million) in Najib Razak’s AmBank Islamic account from Prince Saud Abdulaziz Al-Saud resulted from illegal activities.

In September, Najib’s defense claimed three of the seven Richard Mille watches were corporate donations unrelated to 1MDB funds. The seven watches are worth a total of 4 million ringgit ($871,000). One is worth 1.58 million ringgit ($344,000) and another 500,400 ringgit ($109,000).

Deputy Prosecutor Faten Hadni Khairuddin told the court that the prosecution would consider appealing the decision and asked to grant an interim stay of the decision so that the material would be kept pending the appeal process. But the court rejected the request, considering that the appeal was only potential. The public prosecutor can also appeal against the decision to refuse to grant a suspension of the decision.

In total, police in their 2018 raid on properties linked to Najib Razak seized around 1 billion ringgit ($218 million). There were nearly 12,000 jewels (2,200 rings, 1,400 necklaces, 2,100 bracelets, 2,800 pairs of earrings, 1,600 brooches, 14 tiaras), 401 watches, 234 pairs of glasses, 306 handbags and cash in various currencies for an amount of 114 million. ringgit ($25 million). This is the largest seizure in Malaysian history.

But it was also not successfully proven that most of the seized assets came from the state fund 1MDB and this government bid was the latest attempt to confiscate some of the assets.

Last year, the same judge quashed the government’s request to confiscate the 114 million ringgit in cash seized from Najib and Rosmah because the prosecution failed to prove they had been misappropriated from 1MDB funds. . He ordered that the funds be returned to Umno and Najib. The prosecution did not appeal.

Man throws water on wife’s ‘too revealing’ dress

Internet commentators were outraged after a woman revealed why she was forced to change her clothes moments before her brother’s wedding.

In a viral Reddit post posted to r/TrueOffMyChest, Redditor u/throwra4209975 (otherwise known as the original poster, or OP) said her husband objected to the dress she chose for the wedding and went to great lengths to make sure she could’ I don’t wear it.

Titled “My husband doused the dress I was going to wear to my brother’s wedding with water because he thought it was too revealing,” the post received more than 15,000 upvotes and 2,000 comments last. day.

“My husband and I were invited to my brother’s wedding,” OP began. “I had a knee-length dress with straps over the shoulder and back to wear.”

Continuing to explain that her husband felt the dress was “too revealing”, the original poster said she brushed off her criticism and refused to change into anything else, much to her dismay. consternation.

“He waited [until] I was wearing it then splashed water on it,” OP wrote. “I was in shock!

“He was already in his suit ready to go to the wedding [and] he told me he would wait for me in the car while I changed,” OP continued. “I yelled at him to get the hell out and get out.

“He didn’t even apologize! I kept ranting about how I ignored his feelings towards the dress and disrespected his opinion,” OP added. “We’re not talking…and he thinks he did me a ‘favor’ and kept my ‘dignity’.”

Relationships, no matter how long, can break down quickly.

And where some couples are able to maintain a high level of respect and adoration for decades, certain behaviors exhibited between partners are likely to erode trust and, therefore, their relationship.

Exercising control over a partner’s choices, where they go and how they dress – often associated with instances of abuse – is one such behavior.

The woman leans against the bathroom wall in distress. Members of Reddit’s r/TrueOffMyChest forum were outraged after a woman revealed why her husband threw cold water on the dress she was planning to wear to a wedding.

According to Lia Huynh, a licensed marriage and family therapist, a partner’s need for control is most often rooted in insecurity and can leave other partners feeling judged and stifled.

“Beneath the need for control, there is fear,” Huynh said. Newsweek.

There is a much higher risk of relationship problems when these fears are not communicated in a clear and respectful way. And when problems are ignored and left undone, bigger problems are sure to arise.

“By the time you’re pouring drinks, there’s probably been levels of struggle in the relationship below that need to be resolved,” Huynh said. Newsweek.

Throughout the comments section of the viral Reddit post, many Redditors echoed this sentiment.

Many other Redditors, however, encouraged the original poster to completely reevaluate her relationship, speculating that being doused in water was more indicative of a trend than an isolated event.

“Something tells me this isn’t the first incident of this kind of behavior on his part,” Redditor u/SaveusJebus commented, receiving over 12,600 upvotes.

“I guarantee this isn’t the first time he’s criticized what she wore, or resorted to little antics to get his way,” Redditor u/StevesMcQueenIsHere added. “This is abusive behavior, plain and simple.”

“Time to come up with a safe exit plan,” added Redditor u/schwarzmalerin.

In the post’s top comment, which received nearly 14,000 upvotes, Redditor u/Fine-Trouble8442 said the original poster should have kept the dress, to show her family what her husband has been up to.

“I would wear [it] dripping just to spite her insecure ass,” they wrote.

“What if anyone asks,” commented Redditor u/Soobobaloula, “[Say] ‘my husband threw cold water on me.'”

Mosley and Coe receive Order of Long Leaf award

Mount Airy Mayor Ron Niland has repeatedly said he wants to keep his re-election bid positive — without attacking his opponent, City Commissioner Jon Cawley — and focus more on the issues and what he wants. thinks to bring to the table as a leader.

Cawley’s recent statements, however, brought Niland to the point where he said he felt he had to respond. Cawley has launched several attacks on Niland, other city commissioners, and openly opposed a comprehensive downtown plan in recent weeks, leading up to the Nov. 8 election.

Niland said that despite the attacks and what he called “misinformation” being spread by Cawley, he held his tongue. “I dropped out because I thought it was better to be positive, run a positive campaign.”

The mayor said Cawley crossed a line earlier this week when he claimed much of the controversy and uncertainty over the overall downtown plan could be put at the mayor’s feet.

“If I had been mayor, I would have publicly corrected the misinformation that was spreading and avoided unnecessary voting by commissioners after the public hearing,” he said. “Our mayor’s silence has only made the problem worse.”

This plan is a loose guide for potential downtown development, and city leaders are looking for ways to help current businesses grow, attract new businesses, and bring improvements to the area.

It was the last straw for Niland, especially after a statement in the spring in which Cawley questioned the mayor’s honesty.

“He called me incompetent and a deceiver,” the mayor said, referring to that earlier statement. “Calling me incompetent is not my objection,” he said, explaining that competence or incompetence is often in the eye of the beholder. “What I object to is being called a deceiver. It goes to character. It’s not true, it’s not true,” Niland said.

“I am proud of my positive campaign and sincerely believe that all public servants should stand on their own merits instead of attacking their adversary. Unfortunately, Commissioner Cawley has repeatedly chosen to campaign by creating grievances and personally attacking myself, city staff and community leaders,” the mayor said.

After months of “turning the other cheek,” he feels Mount Airy residents and voters owe “my response to the charges against me.”

“Commissioner Cawley says I have not tried to correct the misinformation on the Town Center Master Plan. I have made several public statements about the plan at council meetings and have asked our staff to create the FAQ (frequently asked questions) information sheet to help citizens better understand the contents of the downtown plan. town. I went door to door to downtown businesses and households in the community to listen and talk about the plan.

He then questioned Cawley’s role in spreading misinformation and sowing discord among the townspeople rather than showing leadership in finding common ground.

“Our City Commissioners have the same responsibility to bring the truth to citizens with their public platform. Instead, my opponent chose to protest the plan and strike fear into the minds of the citizens of Mount Airy…He said it was not his job as City Commissioner to correct misinformation. Well, what is his job? »

Complete diet

While Niland argues that Cawley exhibited these characteristics for a long time, he believes Cawley took advantage of the city’s work to develop this comprehensive plan for the city as an excuse to step up attacks on Niland and others.

The plan is a working guide to potential development, not a plan set in stone, and isn’t just for Main Street – it’s for the “eight or ten blocks around Main Street”.

“It’s an ambitious plan,” Niland said. “It’s not a plan that will pass in its entirety.”

Most cities have full plans – Mount Airy already has one in effect, and this could be considered a partial update. Often such plans are needed when applying for development grants and can be used as a guide for combining projects, which saves money.

For example, Niland said the city is struggling with an aging water and sewer system, especially in the downtown area.

“Some (pipes) are over a hundred years old. We’re going to have to deal with them… some probably in the next five to seven years.

According to him, it makes sense to have a plan in place for what downtown might become before digging those lines.

“While you have to dig and disrupt, while you’re doing that, it makes sense to think about what you’re handing over. I have no preconceived notions of what it might be…we could just put the sidewalk back the way it was.

But, he said, if the idea of moving power and utility lines underground is something to consider, it should be part of the plan ahead of time, to be done as the water and sewer lines are replaced, saving money and time.

This plan, he said, was developed slowly, over time, with input from city residents, business owners and city leaders — except for a commissioner, Cawley. Instead, he believes Cawley has mostly sat on the sidelines, protesting and making accusations that aren’t true, rather than being part of the process.

“After voting against the plan, Commissioner Cawley took part in the downtown protest with around 50 people. He is the only elected official from Mount Airy who did not participate in the nine-month planning process. The Commissioners and I had the opportunity to be interviewed as stakeholders and to attend three public workshops. Commissioner Cawley was given the same opportunities to lead the process, but chose not to participate. »

This, he believes, has become normal. While information packets about upcoming meetings are sent to commissioners, with documents and background information on agenda items, Niland believes Cawley rarely takes advantage of these packets to be ready for meetings. .

“He shows a tendency to be unprepared for meetings and not understanding important city issues, including the budget,” the mayor said. “While other officials do their homework, he blames not getting the same information available to all of us. He has a convenient amnesia when it serves to grab headlines. His drive to divide citizens for potential gain is regrettable.

“Leadership does not attack others. Leadership is the expectation that you can use your voice for good. That you can make the world a better place by encouraging others to do their best and achieve goals that help build community. That’s what I believe.

3 fuzzy slippers on Oprah’s favorite things list of 2022

If you’re looking for a new pair of slippers, Oprah Winfrey has you covered.

The lifestyle mogul recently released her list of favorite things for 2022, and it includes not one, not two, but Three pairs of fluffy slippers to keep your feet warm all winter long. And according to her, all three styles are versatile and fashionable enough to wear outside the home – a trend we’re already seeing with celebrities like Hailey Bieber this season.

The winning pairs, with no particular ranking, are Emu Australia plush boots, Dearfoams warm-up slippers and Minnetonka crossover slippers, showing that Oprah is a slipper lover at heart.

The pair of Emu Australia plushies could easily be mistaken for Ugg boots, rubber soles included, which is why Oprah says they can be worn “around the world”. She added, “They’re made with teddy bear fabric on the outside and warm, moisture-wicking sheepskin on the inside for a snug, snug fit.” Yes please!

The Dearfoams pick, meanwhile, is a very different slipper-boot hybrid. It features a nylon quilted exterior and memory foam insoles, which Oprah found ideal for running to the mailbox.

She also said they feel super plush, making them perfect for mom and dad, and walking in them makes you feel “like you’re walking on a cloud.” (Say no more, we’re in on it.) The slippers are available in six colors, including a fun Sangria hue.

Oprah’s generic slipper, the Minnetonka crossover, is suitable for those with easily overheated feet. The open-toe style gives the toes plenty of room to breathe, but it’s “still nice and fluffy, thanks to a toasty cloud-like faux-fur lining and a padded footbed,” she explained. . They are also 100% leather, which makes them durable enough to be worn indoors and outdoors.

Nate Gibson took over full ownership of Access Audio and Accessories in 2009.

Even after 20 years in business, Access Audio and Accessories still likes to ask, “Who U Rollin’ With?”

The popular catchphrase has been attached to Nate Gibson and Tony Blomberg ever since they opened the oversized door at 500 First Ave. S. at Fort Dodge.

For the duo, the decision was “a bit like the others” according to Gibson.

“And with that, a division of Daniel Tire Company – Access Audio and Accessories – was born in 2002.”

Prada captured the Zeitgeist for all things 90s

In Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 song, “Unholy,” alongside mentions of Balenciaga and Fendi, another luxury brand gets a namecheck: Prada.

For the past seven years, Gucci by Kering SA has dominated the music and handbags charts. But Prada – and sister brand Miu Miu – are now returning to popular consciousness. The Italian luxury group finally seems to be turning the tide, thanks in part to its popularity with Generation Z.

However, as the outlook for high-end products dims, the company needs to redouble its efforts to continue its trajectory and focus on improving its profitability.

Prada SpA burst onto the luxury scene in the mid-1980s, when Miuccia Prada began designing for her family’s accessories house and the company built on the success of her backpacks in nylon. It focused on aggressive expansion, particularly in Asia, even going so far as to list itself in Hong Kong in 2011. But soon after, it was hit by a Chinese crackdown on conspicuous consumption. He was also slow to believe that shoppers would buy luxury goods over the internet.

The company posted five years of declining annual sales through 2018, and even then its tepid growth led to speculation that the family, which controls 80% of the shares, could be forced to sell LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton. SE or Kering.

Curiously, Prada’s resurgence was partly fueled by the zeitgeist for all of the 90s when the fashion house was at its peak. Not only did it quickly spark interest in its ’90s nylon, but it gave the flagship a lasting makeover.

Indeed, his turnaround was due to more than luck. It has invested heavily – more than 200 million euros ($194.9 million) last year – in its digital capabilities, store network and supply chain.

He also finally got ahead of family succession issues. In a surprise move five years ago, Lorenzo Bertelli, eldest son of co-chief executives Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, joined the company, emphasizing digital and sustainability. The 34-year-old, who is next to become CEO, led the Re-Nylon collection, made from recycled ocean plastic, fishing nets and waste from the textile industry. The nylon bag – a 90s icon – is reborn with fully sustainable fabric, helping propel Prada to a new, younger audience. It ranges from £1,000 ($1,118) to £1,500.

And in 2020, Miuccia Prada tapped Raf Simons, the much-loved Belgian designer, as co-creative director. The duo has presented collections that have become more and more popular since the beginning of their collaboration.

It’s all paying off: Prada was the second-most fashionable brand after Gucci in the third quarter, its highest ranking ever in the Lyst Index, which measures searches on and off the Lyst fashion platform, as well as than social media mentions. Miu Miu ballet flats were the most requested product.

Prada does not provide quarterly updates, but it is likely to have followed rival LVMH in achieving strong sales in Europe, with American tourists making the most of their hefty dollar.

Yet it must now continue its transformation amid Chinese lockdowns and runaway inflation in the United States and Europe. That means making sure the brand can hold its own against blockbuster names like Louis Vuitton that shoppers tend to gravitate towards in uncertain times.

Prada’s plan to continue investing 200 to 250 million euros per year is sound. But it also needs to bolster profitability, which still lags its rivals. The company aims to grow its underlying operating margin from 17.4% in the first half to at least 20% in the medium term.

The key to that will be translating her newfound popularity into lucrative handbag sales. Industry-wide, bestselling bags have historically generated gross margins of over 80%. Yet right now Prada has more exposure to fashion and shoes, and less to handbags, compared to LVMH for example, according to Bernstein analysts. Leather goods accounted for around 51% of Prada group sales in 2021, leaving it plenty of room for expansion.

Prada is also underinvested in the United States, with only 22% of sales coming from the Americas in the first half. On the other hand, LVMH achieved 27% of its sales in the United States over the same period.

Offering more It bags and bringing them closer to the price of Chanel and Hermès could help Prada achieve its ambitions even in a downturn. It is the super-rich who continue to spend after all.

Prada shares have outperformed the MSCI World Textiles, Apparel & Luxury Goods Index this year. Investors clearly believe that the company can complete its turnaround and subsequently deliver strong performance in terms of sales and earnings.

There are indeed reasons for optimism. Gucci isn’t firing on all cylinders right now. It generally does well when Prada is in trouble, and vice versa. Meanwhile, a secondary listing in Milan could broaden Prada’s pool of potential investors.

But fashion is notoriously capricious. In the music charts, streaming means that hits can hang around for months or even years. This is not the case when it comes to style.

Nonprofit Halloween Candy

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Charlene Shipley’s daughter is the inspiration behind Roo’s Wish, the nonprofit she founded.

What do you want to know

  • Roo’s Wish is a non-profit organization that supports foster children
  • Organization collects surplus Halloween candy donations
  • Candy will fill foster children’s Christmas stockings
  • You can deposit donations by November 11

“Our daughter’s name is Roo. We adopted from foster care. She is autistic and non-verbal,” Shipley explained.

Shipley started Roo’s Wish as a luggage and gym bag collection project to ensure foster children don’t have to use trash bags to collect their belongings.

“What started as duffel bags and luggage turned into remodeled guest rooms, collecting stocking stuffers that we’re working on right now, stuffed full of treats,” Shipley said.

Volunteers from Shipley and Roo’s Wish are collecting excess Halloween candy donations, enough to fill approximately 3,000 Christmas stockings for foster children.

“A lot of kids and establishments don’t get candy often, so it’s one of their favorite treats and we like to put as much candy as possible in a water bottle to put in their stockings,” said said Shipley.

Along with other projects like clothes, shoes and school kit drives, stocking stuffers are another effort to improve the lives of foster children.

“I think a lot of kids, even at 15 or 16 in institutions or even in foster homes, this may be their first seeding. It’s an opportunity for us to choose items to put in the hand of a child that hasn’t been distributed very well,” says Shipley.

You can drop off candy without Halloween-marked wrappers at Learning Express Toys and Gifts in Middletown or Louisville Laser on Hurstbourne Parkway until November 11.

Roo’s Wish will begin stuffing stockings on November 12. Donations of Christmas stockings, luggage and blankets are also accepted.

“Being in foster care, you’ve been through that and being able to give them such a special gift is a great opportunity to show them they care,” Shipley says. It’s a small gift, but one that could have a huge impact.

Five Ways to Apply Emotional Intelligence in Your Marketing to Deepen the Connection with Consumers

Ros Weadman (main image) is the author of Improve your reputation – how to create a brand that people want to work for, buy and invest in and a communication and brand reputation specialist. In this guest post, Weadman offers five tips to ensure your marketing message has a deeper emotional IQ…

If you’re not connecting with your target market on a deep emotional level, you’re probably wasting your time, effort, and resources. Although communicating the tangible/rational elements of a brand or product, such as quality, capability, price, and service support, is an important part of marketing, connecting on a deep level with target markets requires communicating the intangible/emotional elements, such as brand purpose and values, and how someone will feel when their life improves or their problem is solved through the use or the experience of your product/service.

Here are five ways to inject emotional intelligence into your marketing program to build a deeper connection with target markets.

  1. Define your “why”

You can connect emotionally with people by highlighting the company’s purpose to answer the “why” question – why you do what you do and why it matters. According to PwC, Millennials are 5.3 times more likely to stay with an employer when they have a strong connection to their employer’s goal and non-Millennials are 2.3 times more likely to stay.

Some of the most powerful brand stories contain compelling statements about the cause they believe in. For example, the electric vehicle manufacturer You’re here believes that “the sooner the world stops relying on fossil fuels and moves towards a zero-emissions future, the better”. This belief drives its mission to accelerate the global transition to sustainable energy. A brand that evokes emotion through a strong sense of purpose becomes a beacon to potential employees and customers who believe what you believe.

  1. Understand what company you work for

How you think and talk about what you do for business can have a profound impact on the relevance of your marketing message. As business owners, we need to think and speak through the lens of the customer (brand promise) rather than through the lens of the business (brand profit). Your marketing messages will be more engaging when they tap into the look, feel, and life people want when they buy your product. Charles Revlon, former owner of Revlon International Corporation, said it perfectly when he said, “In the factory, we make cosmetics. In the department store, we sell hope”. Mr. Revlon knew what business he was “really” working in and it was not cosmetics.

  1. Satisfy basic needs

There are several models of human needs that help us understand the emotional triggers that cause people to seek out particular products/experiences in order to evoke specific feelings. Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, for example, suggests that people are motivated to meet particular needs, beginning with basic physiological needs such as the need for food, shelter, and water, and working your way up. to satisfy more complex psychological needs such as security, love/belonging, self-esteem and self-actualization. Similarly, world-renowned trainer Tony Robbins believes that humans have six basic needs that determine behavior: Certainty, Variety, Belonging, Importance, Growth, and Contribution.

A useful way to identify the basic need your target market is trying to satisfy is to ask yourself, “What does my target market want to feel as a result of using/experienced my product/service?”. For example, a need for uncertainty/variety (to feel excitement, drama, euphoria) could translate to “I want to feel adventurous.” Or a need for importance (to feel important, valued, desired) could translate to “I want to feel worthy”.

Once you understand the basic need(s) your target market is looking to satisfy, you can craft powerful marketing messages that will resonate on a much deeper level. For example, an adventure travel business might address a person’s need for variety/uncertainty and their desire to experience excitement or euphoria. Or a prestige watchmaker might appeal to a person’s need for importance and their desire to feel important or worthy.

  1. Tap into the five senses

We experience the world through our senses – visual (seeing); auditory (hearing); kinesthetic (touch/feel); gustatory (taste) and olfactory (smell) – this is why using sensory language and creating sensory experiences are common marketing tactics. In tourist brochures, for example, it is common to read statements referring to the sights, sounds and sensations of the holiday destination to create desire and trigger action. Likewise, sensory stimulation is often used to elicit the emotions of potential buyers, such as the smell of freshly baked bread wafting through rooms in a home open for inspection or the burning of scented candles in a gift shop. .

  1. Speak your brand language

Successful brands communicate with words and tone aligned with their beliefs and values. Mercedes-Benz, for example, as a prestige brand, speaks the language of excellence and distinction with an assured tone, consistent with a culture that values status and importance. When you use words and tone that align with your brand beliefs and values, you build brand trust and credibility through consistency of voice across marketing channels and customer touchpoints.

When you focus on the emotional intangibles in your marketing – the things that connect humans to a brand, such as purpose, beliefs, values, and feelings – you’ll not only make your brand more relevant, the logical tangibles of business, such as sales, productivity and retention, will take better care of themselves.

Coinciding with the celebration of Garavani’s 90th anniversary and the unveiling of Valentino’s “The Beginning” haute couture collection in the heart of Rome, the exhibition is conceived as a vast panorama of the fashion house’s history, integrated into a scenography that evokes the eternal city, where Maison Valentino was founded in 1959.

On the red carpet, Culpo turned heads in a hot pink jumpsuit from the brand’s Fall/Winter 2022/2023 Pink PP collection. She paired it with gloves, a handbag and sparkling diamonds.

Meanwhile, Muaddi posed in a voluminous brown Valentino dress, from the brand’s Spring/Summer 2023 collection, which featured a long cape hanging from the shoulders.

Tips for clothing accessories – don’t try too hard

Q My husband and I read your column regularly, and almost every week you help him add another thoughtful element to his morning dress selections. But I feel like it maybe looks too planned out or too coordinated with too many special touches. We both like to be well dressed, but can you explain to her what’s too much?

A As much as I think it’s important for men to be careful and careful about what they wear, but there are few men who try too hard. Recently, on a commuter train platform, I noticed a man with beautiful silver hair; I noticed the elan with which he carried his gray felt hat. Like most women who like to see a man with a hat, I thought, “Now there’s a man with style.” He wore a raincoat the same color as his hat. But then he draped the coat over his shoulders in a magazine model pose and glanced – a bit too lovingly – at his reflection in a nearby window. A real change of scenery! Although women, by their own admission, admire a man who knows one of two things about style, there is a risk of looking too closely.

Some men avoid dressing like the plague. For example, the Old School, Eastern Establishment type cares about their appearance and is always well trimmed and groomed. However, anything that borders on dandyism is anathema. He doesn’t need or want his clothes to stand out, make a statement, or draw attention to him. But other men have strong anti-clone attitudes and are always looking for something a little special to set them apart. Many small points of difference present themselves as options.

To avoid looking “too perfect”, I tell men to focus on the main elements and then be a bit more laid back on the extras – the accessories. Specifically, get yourself a really good quality suit, tie (if you’re wearing one) and shoes, then relax a bit with the rest – the shirt, the belt, the pocket square, the socks.

The shirt should be of good quality, but it doesn’t need to be French dress, especially for work. Forget fancy belt buckles. Socks should be the right color and length (long enough that no skin is visible when sitting cross-legged), but don’t overdo it with precisely matched materials or colors. Avoid adding too many fine stitches, such as a silk pocket square, waistcoat, well-tied tie, tie clasp, cufflinks, maybe a pair of intricately patterned socks; too many of them can make you seem way too involved. That’s not to say you can’t and shouldn’t have some nice quality features in your wetsuit, but most of your concerns should be about big purchases, with much less emphasis on “extras”. Unfortunately, “looking too good” is not a widespread problem.

Here is a useful formula to follow:

• Choose quality clothing, especially for your large items;

• All elements of good grooming should be followed, including a good haircut (regularly groomed), neatly groomed hands with short, neat fingernails (without even a hint of polish);

• Adopt only some of the special keys. Don’t overdo it. As it can be difficult to have everything spotless and new, you can insert a little break in perfection by, for example, carrying a not-so-new briefcase or wearing an old favorite scarf. Perhaps the best advice is to not overdo it!

Therapy for local youth is more than talk | Richmond Free Press

When Ticeses Teasley separated from the father of her children, her teenage son, Nahkai, started acting and fighting at school.

As a licensed mental health professional and life coach, the mother-of-four acknowledged the behavior resulting from her son experiencing emotions he didn’t know how to appropriately handle.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness in Virginia, one in six children in the United States between the ages of 6 and 17 suffers from some form of mental illness. In Virginia, 97,000 teens battled depression in 2021, and 56.2% of them received no treatment in the past year. Students with depression are twice as likely to drop out of school as students without it, and seven out of 10 children in the juvenile justice system have a mental health problem.

Ms Teasley hopes to disrupt those statistics through her organisation, Nurturing Minds. She knows what it’s like to work on mental health issues with young people thanks to her experience with Nahkai, who addressed his mental and physical issues at the East End Boxing Club. Ms. Teasley’s program, Therapy Undefeated, works with the club, providing trauma-informed mental health care.

Ellwood Patterson, ‘Coach Pat’ as the children who learn boxing with him call him, said he teamed up with Ms Teasley because he could see where the two companies shared a common goal of serving young people .

“I ran my own group home for 20 years and got kids from all walks of life there, including kids from the juvenile justice system,” he said. “[Ms. Teasley] deals with anger management; I take care of the physical.

As students learn the discipline and develop the skills required for boxing, they also learn to deal more constructively with the obstacles they face and the emotions that may accompany them.

Through peer support groups with Ms. Teasley, participants form healthy connections with themselves and others. They are taught to examine the source of feelings they struggle to express outwardly – such as anger, anxiety and depression – and are given tools to develop alternative ways to channel their emotions.

“We can help them understand their anger – boxing helps them release that emotion,” said coach Pat. “It teaches them that there are other ways to deal with your anger, starting with figuring out what triggers them, what makes them tick.”

Therapy Undefeated operates under Ms. Teasley’s non-profit organization, Nurturing Minds. The organization was established in 2016 and recently received a $10,000 grant from Venture Richmond to help relocate the business to 420 W. Broad St. The location is more accessible for students and their families – the building is near the Greater Richmond Transit Corporation (GRTC) Pulse bus stop — and to expand the organization beyond the parenting, peer group and trauma healing group services it initially offered, said she declared.

In addition to the East End Boxing Club partnership, Nurturing Minds has opened The Nurturing Café, another outlet for children to develop healthy coping mechanisms for their emotions. Located in Mrs. Teasley’s building, the attendees deal with marketing, meal preparation, greeting, serving and calling customers – the whole operation is run by young people under her supervision . Working at the Cafe is an after-school program offered to students in Richmond Public Schools.

“We provide the food and the revenue from the customers goes to the cafe,” Ms. Teasley said, “and the kids get to keep their tips.”

Located near Virginia Commonwealth University, the cafe offers “nutritious wraps” made with chicken, shrimp, cheeseburger, salmon and vegetables; Fries; chicken strips; and other items. “Children get a week of training and hands-on experience to build skills and learn to manage their emotions.”

Ms. Teasley also provides outlets for students to express these emotions. The building has a stage where Ms. Teasley plans to offer spoken word engagements. It also has an urban art gallery to encourage students to express themselves through art. The gallery is sometimes open during the first Fridays.

“Everything we do centers around expression and entertainment to keep children safe and off the streets,” Ms Teasley said.

& Other Stories X AWAKE Mode Releases Tomorrow: Here’s Vogue’s Verdict

We took a look at the drop ahead of its release and highlighted our favorites.

Shop the full collection here.

Color pop dress

The vogue verdict:

While the bulk of the collection is made up of neutral tones of beige, white and black, I love that it includes a pop of vibrant red, thanks to this rib knit dress. The fabric is thick but not bulky, which helps create a flattering silhouette, which is further accentuated by the fuss-free neckline and statement-making fringed hem. I’d say the fit is true to size – I’m wearing an extra small here (around UK 8) but would usually opt for a small (UK 10) which would be perfect.

& Other Stories AWAKE Fashion Red Dress

The trendy skirt

The vogue verdict:

If I had to pick one item from the collection to take home, it would be this skirt. A signature of AWAKE fashion, the cutout panels will be a familiar sight for any OG fan of the brand, and the calf length (note I’m about 5ft 7in) is both stylish and timeless. As for the size, I would take the size up if you have curvier hips as it’s quite comfortable on the midsection. Plus, I have to thank the collection’s asymmetrical bodysuit, which is a true winter layering hero.

& Other Stories AWAKE Fashion Cutout Skirt

Corset detail shirt

The vogue verdict:

If the 2000s girl group corset revival has you running for the hills, consider trying this shirt on for size. Combining the heightening powers of a corset with the androgynous appeal of a crisp white shirt, the overall effect is seriously chic indeed. It’s perfect with the collection’s asymmetrical fitted skirt, but I imagine it will also work well with lightly washed jeans. Due to the fitted panels, I would advise anyone with a larger bust to go up in size.

& Other Stories AWAKE Fashion Corset Shirt

The tailor-made set

The vogue verdict:

Another AWAKE design motif is the stand-up collar shirt, so I was happy to see this checkered set included in the collection. As is often the case with the brand’s signature pieces, the devil is in the details: from the long flared sleeves to the crisp oversized collar, the final piece is striking yet versatile. You can wear the shirt alone or layered with the matching layered split hem pants.

The ceremonial dress

The vogue verdict:

You can’t go wrong with a really nice black dress, and & Other Stories and AWAKE really caused a stir with this square neck midi. Fitted through the bust and waist then flared out from the hips, it’s a great compromise for those who can’t keep up with the bodycon dress trend, but still want a bit of shaping. The sleeves, however, are definitely the highlight and feel quite Elizabethan with their crinkled volume.

Hourglass blazer

The vogue verdict:

The fashion world has been obsessed with the oversized blazer for several seasons now, but we appreciate the return of the size for Fall/Winter 2022. This stunning blazer has such a great silhouette and can be made looser or more fitted thanks to a tie detail in the back (note that it also has a cut out section). I think it’s best tied tightly for a finish inspired by the 1950s Dior Bar jacket. A true wardrobe classic.

Rimowa Luggage Enters The Metaverse With Nike RTFKT NFT Suitcases

Rimowa traveled out of his home in Germany to bring his unique materials and exquisite physical luggage craftsmanship into the metaverse.

Today, LVMH Rimowa has partnered with Nike RTFKT to figure 888 – a symbol of financial prosperity and good luck – NFT supported by limited edition physical luggage.

Attract new Web3 Rimowa enthusiasts and fan ages in the metaverse, the collaboration will combine physical and virtual art with exclusive Rimowa Original Cabin suitcases – released first as digital assets.

Originally introduced in 1898 by Paul Morszeck, the Rimowa Classic Cabin suitcase was intended to be the strongest, lightest and most elegant suitcase at the time.

Today, Rimowa’s aluminum luggage is recognized as a revolutionary invention for travelers who want to travel in a light yet fashionable way. Fitted with handmade leather handles and a polycarbonate exterior, the classic cabin aims to showcase the German Maison’s craftsmanship and modernism.

Committed to prioritizing innovative designs and the practicality of travel, Rimowa has entered the metaverse to further prove that its originality cannot be replicated – in the same way that soon-to-be-released NFTs cannot be reproduced.

Building on the metaverse, Rimowa has developed a new 3D e-commerce experience through OnCyber to meet the ever-changing needs of travelers around the world in the virtual environment.

Expanding its years of luggage expertise with today’s digital evolution, Rimowa is attracting newcomers to journey into the metaverse and join the established Web3 community and space by partnering with RTFKT.

Purchased by Nike in December 2021, RTFKT is noted as one of the first luxury brands to operate in the NFT space with its sold out digital sneakers which have been purchased for more than some physical sneaker collections today.

After the conventional puzzles and quests of RTFKT, Rimowa will seek its community participation to unlock access to exclusive drop-in and limited-edition merchandise in a new interactive campaign.

On October 27, users will be invited to solve a variety of challenges together to discover the “hacked” space station Rimowa x RTFKT – which required reactivation in order to hit one of the few NFTs.

Those able to reach the limited supply of NFT will be able to forge the token for a tradable physical version of the suitcase.

“This collaboration is a fantastic opportunity for two brands that excel in their fields to come together to create products that can live in both the digital and physical realms,” said Emelie De Vitis, Chief Marketing Officer at Rimowa.

As part of Rimowa’s mission to develop unique products where function coexists with luxury, Rimowa hopes to bring its creativity into the virtual landscape by introducing and immersing its supporters in the next generation of brand engagement across the metaverse. .

“Entering the metaverse with RTFKT is really exciting, as it allows us to explore what it means to travel there. It’s a space that pushes creativity and collaboration to new heights and offers new ways to engage with different audiences,” added De Vitis.

Rimowa will also be unveiling a range of digital assets like Avatar Wearables and Space Robot Worker NFTs with RTFKT to transport the function of physical suitcases into the metaverse for the first time.

“We really put all our passion into this project, while pushing the boundaries in terms of typing experience, 3D space and raffle system. We can’t wait for people to see the physical baggage and experience their Clone Wearables once they’re forged,” says RTFKT Co-Founder Benoit Pagotto.

Mario Valentino sues Fashionphile in fight against “Valentino” trademarks

Mario Valentino is taking action against Fashionphile, accusing the resale company of trademark infringement, false advertising and unfair competition in a new lawsuit. According to the lawsuit it filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Friday, Mario Valentino – a midsize accessories brand that is not affiliated with the luxury brand of the same name Valentino, SpA – claims to have discovered this spring that Fashionphile offered products using Mario Valentino’s trademark “VALENTINO” in a manner that “is not authorized to promote products that have not been manufactured, purchased, or authorized by Mario Valentino (or its exclusive licensee ) in the USA”.

For some information on his trademark rights, Mario Valentino claims that he is “the first and principal owner of the VALENTINO family registrations of trademarks on leather handbags and similar products in the United States”, including his recording almost 50 years old (nope. 0951621) for “VALENTINO” to be used on “handbags and luggage”. With this registration in mind, Mario Valentino claims to have informed Fashionphile of its allegedly unauthorized use of the VALENTINO trademark in connection with the advertising/sale of Valentino, Bags and Shoes SpA – and demanded that the Carlsbad-based retailer, in California, immediately cease this alleged infringement – by means of a cease and desist letter at the end of May 2022.

“Despite follow-up cease and desist letters, and although Fashionphile continues to state that it would comply with Mario Valentino’s demands, it has not done so,” Mario Valentino claims, arguing that at the time of the filing, “nearly four hundred women’s handbags and clutches are advertised on Fashionphile’s website as ‘VALENTINO’ at prices ranging from $200 to $2,800.” In this context, Mario Valentino states allegations of trademark infringement, false association, false advertising, unfair competition, and unlawful deceptive acts and practices in violation of New York’s General Business Law against Fashionphile, and seeks an injunction, as well as damages.

Search results for “Valentino” on Fashionphile

Although at first glance it may appear to be a simple trademark case brought by a brand against a reseller who allegedly engages in infringement (à la Chanel against the real real), a closer look reveals there’s a lot more going on. In fact, more than just a legal spat with Fashionphile, Mario Valentino’s lawsuit is best characterized as an escalation of his existing – and higher – stakes. fight against Valentino, SpA (“Valentino”). After all, the bags that Mario Valentino points to in his complaint as being infringingly or otherwise inappropriately advertised are not Mario Valentino bags, but those of Valentino.

TFL readers will know that Valentino filed a complaint against Mario Valentino in California federal court in July 2019, alleging that the unaffiliated brand and its US licensee are charged with false advertising, unfair competition and design patent infringement for “actively engaging in a campaign to exchange the Valentino’s goodwill in the US handbag market.” This still-ongoing legal battle – which also includes a separate but related fight in the Italian courts – centers on a coexistence agreement that the two Valentinos have reached over 40 years ago in an effort to avoid consumer confusion and corresponding legal complications arising from their nearly identical nicknames and relatively similar offerings.

According the 1979 coexistence agreementMario Valentino – who got his start in 1952 as a shoe and leather goods company – is “allowed to use the ‘V’ Where ‘Valentino’ branding on the outside of her handbags [and marketing]but is not allowed to use the ‘V’ and “Valentino” brand together,” but it “must also use the “Mario Valentino” brand inside and on the packaging of all handbags to avoid consumer confusion.” In other words, Mario Valentino may use the name “VALENTINO” on leather goods, such as handbags, assuming it includes the full name “Mario Valentino” inside.

Meanwhile, the deal limits how Valentino – which was founded by Valentino Garavani in 1960 and was much more known for couture than handbags when the deal was signed – can use the name “VALENTINO “. In particular, it states that for leather handbags and other similar products, Valentino “may only use its [V] and/or “VALENTINO GARAVANI”. Simply put, Valentino “should use the term ‘GARAVANI’ in addition to ‘VALENTINO’ to minimize consumer confusion between the parties. »

A Valentino ad and a Mario Valentino ad
A Valentino ad (left) & a Mario Valentino ad (right)

In response to Valentino’s claims, Mario Valentino state one’s own demands in 2020, accusing Valentino of violating the coexistence agreement through his advertising. Since 2017, Valentino has “highlighted ‘VALENTINO’ in its handbag advertising, removing and/or significantly reducing the appearance of the required term ‘GARAVANI,'” Mario Valentino said, claiming his rival violated the coexistence agreement and had committed trademark infringement.

And in an argument that hinted at the potential for claims against retailers (or resellers) of Valentino products, Mario Valentino also argued that Valentino should be held contributorily liable for the alleged infringement of at least one of its authorized dealers. According to Mario Valentino, authorized retailer Valentino FORWARD by Elyse Walker also infringed its trademarks by “advertising Valentino products as ‘VALENTINO BAGS’ but making no reference to the term ‘GARAVANI’ in its advertising”.

When the situation was last updated in July, not only was the US case still ongoing, but the parties’ fight in Italy had also not been resolved.

Since Valentino and Mario Valentino seemed to coexist peacefully in the market for four decades, the deal seemed to work effectively. However, Mario Valentino’s new lawsuit against Fashionphile and his existing battle against Valentino indicate that this is no longer the case.

As for what’s driving the legal wrangle from a big picture perspective, Valentino argues in his lawsuit that the clash stemmed from Mario Valentino’s quest to “intentionally…compromise.” [its] goodwill in the handbag market” and “lead consumers to believe that Mario Valentino handbags are the same Valentino bags available at luxury retailers”. Such efforts to piggyback on the Valentino brand stem from Mario Valentino’s alleged copying of Valentino SpA’s bag designs, and its advertising, the latter being “intentionally designed to confuse consumers into believing that the handbags Mario Valentino are actually Valentino handbags sold. at a discount, and/or a diffusion line of Valentino handbags that sell at lower prices,” per Valentino.

At the same time, it’s hard not to contemplate the transformation of Mayhoola-owned Valentino – now an accessories powerhouse thanks to offerings like its Rockstud Shoes, and Roman Stud and VLogo bags – since the coexistence agreement was signed in 1970. In 2021, Valentino’s annual sales reached 1.23 billion euros, with accessories accounting for 66% of sales, compared to 32% for ready-to-wear. . As such, the breakdown of the parties’ arrangement is likely due in large part to Valentino’s strong expansion into leather goods and the like, which generates substantial revenues and margins for luxury brands, especially compared to to luxury clothing, and the limits that the coexistence agreement imposes on it from an ancillary point of view – and from a possible M&A.

Due to the size of – and Valentino’s ambitions for – its accessories business, and in light of Mario Valentino’s “senior trademark registrations for the VALENTINO brands, [which] present an obstacle to [Valentino’s] growth in the leather handbag market,” Mario Valentino argues that her alleged misuse of the “Valentino” trademark without “Garavani” is part of a larger plan “to grow her leather handbag business and reap millions of dollars in profits, so she can sell her company at a higher price to investors.”

Valentino has no shortage of trademark rights and registrations for its name and logos – from Valentino for use on eyewear, and Valentino Garavani on handbags, shoes and apparel to the V logo for use on almost all categories of products – that another party would have appropriated if it took over the Valentino brand. Nevertheless, it is difficult not to recognize that an acquirer may dispute the fact that missing a central element of the brand’s portfolio: the ability to offer leather goods and shoes alone under the VALENTINO name and the risk of litigation, as in this case, arising therefrom. (With that in mind, his case against Fashionphile could very well be a Mario Valentino strategy game in an attempt to gain leverage in the Valentino business.)

Taken together, these issues have set the stage for a long, bi-national legal battle that only seems to be gaining momentum if the lawsuit recently filed by Mario Valentino is any indication.

A Fashionphile representative was not immediately available for comment.

The case is Mario Valentino SpA v Fashionphile Group LLC1:22-cv-08984 (SDNY).

Angel Chen Fall 2022 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Angel Chen’s fall collection came together in a uniquely nomadic way. Finally able to take a much-desired trip to Mongolia—her fiancé is half-Mongolian—Chen and his team set up a mobile studio and began exploring Mongolian cities. “We drove to a place, settled in and found the [local artisans] and worked on the collection together, the whole team,” she explained on Zoom. “It was a very dramatic experience for me because everything was done by someone who is very down to earth, who protects the environment and who loves his farm, the place where he grew up. It’s like making the produced directly inside your home.

The result is a stunning collection, photographed across different Mongolian landscapes, that brings together Chen’s discerning vision for silhouette and texture, with intricate local craftsmanship. Pieces run the gamut from simple, like workwear-ready button-down shirts and hand-embroidered jumpsuits with cowries, ponchos, jackets and hoodies in intricately woven tapestries with an image of horse. A cover made from a panoramic image of a landscape was fashioned into a sleeveless dress with a high neck, its bold green and orange to match the Mongolian steppe.

Elsewhere, a pair of wide leg jeans with a ruffled, shaggy fur detail at the waist have been cuffed extra wide – so wide there are buttonholes to hold the cuff in place – showing a stenciled design painted in below. Worn with a baby tee and a bohemian-style white felt coat with a shaggy fur trim, it had a certain ease but also a glamour, like something Rihanna might wear. An oversized quilted jacket and trousers in intricately woven jacquards and brocades also had real-life superstar appeal. Another special piece was a pair of dragon print jeans made from a special velvet denim developed by Chen. While it’s obvious that some of the pieces won’t be available for wide retail distribution, the collection as a whole is steeped in the designer’s point of view, connecting traditional craft traditions with modern silhouettes and, in doing so, ensuring that these important trades do not disappear.

EasyJet still requires a GP note explaining medication in travelers’ luggage

The BMA has raised concerns about current airline requirements for travelers to bring a GP letter explaining the medicines in their luggage.

His The GP committee first raised the issue in July when he pointed out that the practices did not have to provide the information for free or at all and said he would “raise this issue” with offending airline EasyJet.

Now the GPC has raised fresh concerns, saying EasyJet’s advice remains “unclear”.

His latest email newslettersent to GPs yesterday, said: ‘We are aware that some airlines advise travelers bringing medicines in their hand luggage to bring a letter from their doctor confirming the type of medicine and what it is for.

Link to advice on the EasyJet websitehe added: ‘We raised this issue with the airline, who advised that if a passenger packs their medication in their hold baggage, they do not need any of their medical information.

‘However, if a passenger seeks to carry their essential medication in their carry-on baggage and the form of the medication violates aviation regulations, for example the use of sharp objects, liquids over 100ml or oxygen cylinders, they require the passenger to produce confirmation from their healthcare practitioner that the medication should be carried as it may be required on board.

But the GPC pointed out that Easyjet’s advice was still “unclear” because its website “advises passengers to take their medication in their hand luggage and does not specify what type of medication requires a letter”.

The GPC said: “We have therefore written to the airline again requesting that their web page be updated accordingly.”

EasyJet tips for patients said: “We advise you to take your medication in your hand luggage.

“Please bring a letter from your GP confirming the type of medicine and what it is for.”

Pulse asked Easyjet if it would update its advice online.

A spokesperson said: “We are grateful to the BMA for their feedback and following our response we are in the process of updating our website to make our policy clearer for our customers.”

In the meantime, the GPC stressed that “firms can choose to do this work privately but are not obligated to do so”.

He reiterated that they ‘should advise patients that they can print their medical records from the NHS app, or practices can charge for travel-related enquiries’.

In July, an EasyJet spokesperson confirmed to Pulse that its advice only applies to prescription medication.

They added that travelers bringing prescribed medication must bring a medical certificate or a copy of their prescription and they must also present a medical certificate to airport security if liquid or gel medication exceeds 100ml. .

They said this requirement is also the case for other airlines as it is in line with government guidelines.

But the airline has not updated its guidance online to reflect that clarification it provided to Pulse three months ago.

Previously, the BMA warned that some airlines – including EasyJet – were still asking travelers exempted from wearing a face mask to obtain a medical certificate against government directives.

Luis De Javier unveils the first ready-to-wear collection exclusively for Selfridges – Rain

LDJ x Selfridges

Spanish-born fashion designer based in London Luis de Javier unveils its first ready-to-wear collection exclusively for the British luxury retailer Selfridges & Co.which will be available in the Oxford Street flagship store and online from September 27, 2022.

With tailor-made couture pieces worn by Beyonce, Kim Kardashian, Cardi B and Rihanna among other things, this capsule collection of gender-neutral ready-to-wear marks the first time that De Javier’s designs have become widely available for purchase, the brand’s fearless sensuality and bold silhouettes distilled into wearable and accessible pieces for clients.

The Subway

A love letter to queer culture and the underground night scene that have shaped the brand’s DNA since its inception, the first playful and sex-positive ready-to-wear collection showcases Luis De Javier’s hallmarks in material of vegan leather, tailoring and shameless sexuality. a range of jackets, corsets, mini dresses and trousers, offered in a signature palette of black, white and red, with additional pieces in striking yellow and nude also introduced.

Queerness, fashion and club culture

Creating work that celebrates the intersection of homosexuality, fashion and club culture, Luis De Javier envisions a hedonistic future, populated by creatures with sharp shoulders and cinched waists – a kind of armor that transcends gender and sexuality, encouraging wearers to be stronger, bolder and less afraid to speak out. The collection is presented in Selfridges Level 3 Designer Studio in a bespoke display with tiled walls and a soap dispenser, reminiscent of the club bathrooms where many of the ideas for the collection were born.

It was a new challenge to create ready-to-wear while remaining faithful to the spirit and the message of the brand. I’m constantly inspired by my community, so naturally I want the people who feed me to make these clothes to be able to buy and wear them. This is what brings me joy at the end of the day: dressing these people, so that they feel beautiful and free. This collection was therefore about taking the brand’s DNA and translating it into very wearable pieces.

Air NZ is dropping the seat-only option on some international routes

Air New Zealand is removing the seat-only ticket option on its Tahiti, Perth and Honolulu services.

The airline says around 5% of customers purchase a seat-only fare on these routes.

From Thursday, passengers to Perth and Tahiti will no longer be able to purchase a seat and carry-on only ticket.

Instead, economy class passengers will be streamlined to The Works – which includes a meal and checked baggage.

Starting Oct. 30, flights from Honolulu will also no longer have a carry-on only option.

The airline will offer economy, premium economy and business offers – which it offers on its other North American routes.

“The majority of our customers on these services are already buying The Works, with only 5% of customers only buying a seat ticket,” said Air New Zealand’s Jeremy O’Brien.

“Ensuring everyone can enjoy a meal from our delicious new menu gives an overall better onboard experience and streamlines the process for our crew and customers.

“As for Honolulu, moving this service to our long-haul offering aligns it with our other North American destinations so customers can now choose between economy, premium economy and business class on those flights.”

Here’s a look at Louis Vuitton’s Alvarado handbag workshop

ALVARADO – Natural light shines through the windows and reflects off the hard-working artisans at Louis Vuitton Rochambeau Ranch in Alvarado. The luxury handbag maker says it designed the building to empower the creativity of its 300 artisans.

On Friday, Louis Vuitton gave the media a detailed look at the details that go into creating a handbag. This weekend, the ranch will open for free one-hour tours to the public that are all booked. The tours are part of LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s Special Dayswhich translates to “special days”.

The company said it plans to expand the ranch to enable more training and production and reach a goal of 1,000 artisans in Alvarado. The expansion will take the ranch to 256 acres and is expected to open next year.

This is the fifth time the French handbag, wallet and accessories maker has offered tours of its stores and manufacturing facilities, but the first time it has conducted tours in Alvarado. Louis Vuitton would not allow official interviews with artisans and workers during the media tour.

“It offers a rare opportunity to visit the real places where magic happens and gain valuable insights into how our artisans shape dreams which, in turn, make our world a more beautiful place to live,” Bernard Arnault, Chairman and CEO of LVMH, said in a statement.

The walls inside the ranch tell the story of Louis Vuitton. There are photos of the French general who helped the 13 colonies achieve independence during the Revolutionary War, whose ranch is named after. The ranch went through Rockin’ Z when LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton bought it.

There are also pictures of the man himself, Louis Vuitton. He is best known for creating trunks. In 1859, he expanded his activities by opening a workshop in the center of Paris with 20 employees. Louis Vuitton reported over $54 billion in sales for the first nine months of 2022, and has 156,000 employees worldwide, including 33,000 in the United States

Alvarado workers are grouped into stations for painting, cutting and other procedures. Some of the company’s bags require more than 350 steps, the company said.

Colorful leathers and threads on spools line the walls, and each workstation has a small bag with the scissors, brushes, sewing kits and detailing tools used by artisans.

New craftsmen follow five weeks of training at the School of Leather Trades. During the first two weeks, artisans learn the basic use of Louis Vuitton machines. The third week is reserved for learning how to hand-paint the products. The last two are dedicated to mastering a particular element.

All leather hides are imported from Northern Europe and inspected for imperfections, the company said. Skins rejected for stretch marks or imperfections are kept for the training of artisans.

The Rochambeau Ranch is one of three Louis Vuitton ranches in the United States; the other two are in California. Fifty seven brands across 93 locations in 15 countries open to the public this weekend.

Palm Angels Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Francesco Ragazzi titled this collection Welcome To Miami, delivering an irresistible prompt to drop Will Smith in the intro: you ask how I know I have to plead the fifth.

Palm Angels made his mark selling Ragazzi’s underdog, a Made in Italy aesthetic approximation of Californian skate-luxe on a global scale, but as he observed on a Zoom, he’s as much a sucker for charms Miami neon as the Fresh Prince. In turn, Miami itself has embraced a healthy dose of Italian design sensibility over the years: primarily the signature Memphis Milano that continues to act as a signpost for Florida flesh 40 years later.

There were plenty of brash pastels and angular Memphis shapes, mostly in the background, from a collection that carefully and overwhelmingly avoided obvious Grand Theft Auto and Tony Montana references. Instead, Ragazzi used his photographer’s eye to piece together a series of character studies in clothing via oversized minimalist tailoring, carefully rendered workwear pastiches, and inevitable kitsch (because when in Miami.. .) shop for tourists. Shark print pants, a Miami Vice-ish print jersey dress, pastel palm tree totes, terrycloth hoodies and excellent jelly shoes with spaghetti straps were all part of this elevated off-duty aesthetic. . Especially meta-Miami were the coins printed with watermarked vintage photographs, money, a terrified face (which escaped the reverse lookup), and a starry muscle ship offshore.

Ragazzi said: “As a passionate photographer, somewhere between committed amateur and semi-professional, Getty Images represents the very essence of that passion. This archive, covering editorial, historical, vintage, everything, is incredible. So I approached them for a collaboration. We wanted to tell part of Miami’s story through their archival footage, and it was important to me to keep those watermarks – like an imprint for the collection – because…”

“Because Getty photos get stolen and posted on social media all the time?”

Another nod to digital was evident in the Palm Angels trademark inverted waistband of his khaki shorts, a remix of the TikTok trend to twist Dickies from skate staple to hip statement piece. Ragazzi’s latest was a sweet remix of portable codes enriched by this ode to the alchemy of Magic City.

The Elder Statesman Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

For spring, The Elder Statesman creative director Bailey Hunter turned to 101 Useless Japanese Inventions: The Art of Chindōgu, a 1995 book by Japanese inventor Kenji Kawakami. Though humorous, Kawakami’s designs, like the shoe-brella or a wearable cube of “instant personal space” (both featured in the brand’s lookbook), were rooted in anti-consumer sentiment. It might seem like antithetical inspiration for a luxury knitwear line, but only until you think of The Elder Statesman’s thoughtful approach to conscious production. “Everything we create should theoretically be able to exist forever,” founder Greg Chait said during a showroom appointment in SoHo.

“This whole concept is just a matter of imagination,” Hunter explained as he looked through the collection. “Being able to be free to create things that actually serve a purpose, however ridiculous.” That’s not to say the spring collection consists of impractical clothes, but there’s a sense of playfulness and anarchy in the clothes that feel very much in tune with the chindōgu spirit. This was particularly evident in a brown cashmere sweater featuring a moth motif made from hand-crocheted unsold stock yarn. “I’m really obsessed with this idea of butterflies because they’re cashmere’s worst enemy, so I put it all over the sweater,” she said. Crochet figures prominently in the collection, such as on a striped spaghetti strap jumpsuit in berry and yellow tones worn over a navy blue crochet bustier; over a cool maxi skirt with a contrasting elastic waistband that made it look like tie-dye; and on a loose cardigan and matching knee-length skirt in brown with red detailing and appliquéd flowers.

An intarsia sweater features a bright print of comic book panels, a collaboration with French comic artist Baptiste Virot, but its playfulness belies the technical wizardry it took to pull it off. “Usually they can’t do that many colors in an intarsia,” Hunter explained. “It’s too much [yarns] and it gets really thick, but they’ve mastered this one. I’m really proud of it. A beige sweater is applied with small plush sea creatures. Each piece is sweeter than the next.

Elsewhere, there are basic silhouettes done in a decidedly non-basic way: a colorful sleeveless tank dress is made from unsold stock yarn that has been given to knitters with the freedom to order the colors however they wish; a cashmere cardigan worn with matching trousers features contrast stitch detailing on the sides. Even velvet makes an appearance on an oversized button-up shirt, bomber jacket and extra-large cargo pants, all in a shade of grass green or turquoise. It seems impossible to have a bad day wearing The Elder Statesmen’s colorful knitwear. A good reason to keep these clothes forever.

Lufthansa says AirTags allowed in checked baggage after confusion over ban

One of the world’s biggest airlines has set the record straight on its Apple AirTags policy, ending days of confusion over whether the carrier was in fact banning the size tracking device. a room that some travelers have turned to to monitor their checked baggage.

German airline Lufthansa clarified its policy on Wednesday, saying in a statement that German aviation authorities had agreed with its risk assessment that tracking devices such as AirTags posed no security risk.

“These devices are permitted on Lufthansa flights,” Lufthansa concluded.

It is unclear when the airline’s risk assessment took place. The company did not respond to questions Wednesday about the AirTags policy, including why four days ago it was miscommunicated in tweet from his verified Twitter account.

Confusion over the policy of Lufthansa, which carried nearly 47 million passengers last year, briefly added to the accumulation of headaches air travelers have endured this year. The pandemic-hindered airline industry has had a particularly brutal summer, fraught with flight delays and cancellations, labor shortages and nightmares of lost luggage.

But while consumers can’t do much about an understaffed flight or an overworked crew, AirTags and similar tracking products from Tile and Chipolo have emerged as a way for travelers to keep an eye out for checked baggage that gets lost en route to baggage claim. Ever since Apple introduced the $29 coin-sized tags last year, people have used them to find stolen luggage, catch a lying moving company driver, and track all kinds of lost or stolen property, from car keys to dogs.

“Mishandled” luggage – the industry speaks of “lost, damaged, delayed and stolen” – remains a significant problem for travelers around the world. Nationally, in July alone, 275,582 checked bags were mishandled by US-based carriers, according to the Department of Transportation. Air Travel Consumer Report From September onwards.

We asked: will an AirTag save my lost luggage?

Before backtracking on Wednesday, Lufthansa appeared to be the only major carrier to specifically ban AirTags in passengers’ checked baggage. In response to a customer’s question about the rumored ban, the company on Saturday replied from his official Twitter account that he considered activated AirTags dangerous; disabling AirTags renders them useless. He followed to say that baggage trackers were subject to dangerous goods regulations, citing the guidelines of the International Civil Aviation Organization.

Lithium batteries can catch fire if damaged, which is why regulators such as federal aviation administration requires items such as cell phones, tablets, vapers and cameras to be completely disabled if stored in checked baggage.

Lufthansa’s dangerous goods list does not specifically address baggage trackers. An ICAO spokesperson said that since it is not a regulatory body, the group was unable to comment on how its guidelines are interpreted or implemented. , but pointed to its guidelines that allow batteries in checked baggage if they are low enough. battery life and lithium content.

Nationally, the Transportation Security Administration said baggage trackers are allowed in checked baggage and carry-on baggage. Brett Snyder, president of airline industry blog Cranky Flier, said regulators are tasked with keeping up with developments in consumer technology that can pose safety issues on planes.

“Airlines, until they have clarity, can interpret [regulations] as they see fit,” Snyder said. “And Lufthansa tends to be a very conservative company, so it’s no surprise that they default to ‘you can’t use that’.”

Apple said in a statement that the AirTags “comply with international airline travel security regulations for carry-on and checked baggage.”

The tags are powered by a CR2032 coin cell battery, the same used in watches, key fobs and some medical and fitness devices, which are licensed under the guidance of national and international regulators such as the Safety Agency airline of the European Union. The devices connect to Apple’s Find My Device app, used on iPhones, via Bluetooth Low Energy, the same connection technology used in authorized items such as Bluetooth headphones.

And while AirTags are once again allowed to take off in Lufthansa’s cargo holds, tracking lost baggage only does so much good, Snyder said.

“I think the AirTags thing is funny. If my luggage is lost, the airline will not listen to what I say,” Snyder said of the information provided by his AirTags. “Maybe it’s the peace of mind knowing that my bags still exist… somewhere.”

Italians Posh and Becks go to war over Rolexes and handbags in ‘apocalyptic’ breakup

Mr Totti was asked how it felt to be considered Italy’s most glamorous and enviable couple.

“Fairy tales don’t exist. We had ups and downs, like any couple. And then something broke (in the relationship).”

The difficulties started in 2016, just before he gave up his life as a professional footballer. said Mr. Totti. “Quitting playing wasn’t easy. It was a bit like dying. I was in a fragile state, I missed the connection to the sport and Ilary didn’t understand the pain.”

The collapse of marriage since spring 2021 came as a big shock to many Italians, who had come to see partnership as a constant in their lives.

A commentator said on Wednesday the split had amplified feelings that familiar aspects of daily life were crumbling amid war in Ukraine, an energy crisis and the uncertainty of a new far-reaching prime minister. right.

“Their separation adds to the feeling that the world is ending, because we believed in them,” said the commentator for La Stampa, a major Italian daily.

“We were sure they were different, almost Disney-esque, he was good and she was adorable. That they were different from footballers and their girlfriends who continually dump each other. We can now add the end of their marriage to other more serious signs of the coming Apocalypse.

Thebe Magugu Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Dunusa, he explains, “translates to ‘bend over’, because that’s what everyone does to rummage around”. We watch him scavenge handfuls of men’s ties (in some of the shades of the red spectrum that have found their way into the collection), scavenge cargos and jeans, sports tops and sweatpants amid the graying heaps and the frenzied chaos of merchants and traders. Then, back in his workshop, he begins to rework the clothes. “What I wanted was to invert Veblen’s theory, make it a trickle-down theory. Take things that were in bins in the market and put them back in a luxury space.

The frenzied scuffle in the marketplace over the detritus of the Global North speaks volumes of desperation and deliberately makes for a confronting viewing for a fashion audience. Backstage, after the show, Magugu delved into the layers of intent behind exposing this. “Africans and South Africans have taken things that have sometimes hurt us in the past, and refurbished and re-contextualized them to mean something else that can be reintegrated into our different cultures and heritage,” he said. he explained. “But two things can be true at the same time,” he warns. “This kind of second-hand thing has devastating effects on the continent’s environment. Some people go out and patchwork clothes together. They create these thrift shops. Many of my friends have started entire businesses this way. I also examine it, how it has impacted our sense of national identity. It is not uncommon to see a woman in downtown Johannesburg wearing a traditional Shweshwe skirt, which is very important for certain traditional ceremonies, paired with a Vodafone shirt or a Manchester United t-shirt.

In fact, Magugu’s elevation of elements and signifiers of South African style – like the “fish and chips” print (inspired by street food stalls), the Photoshopped texture of the mohair blankets and his red tracksuit snappy – are not. made of commercial materials. In order to survive as a business and operate Thebe Magugu as a brand that sells globally, the designer faced some issues that led him to rethink his sourcing. “No one talks about South Africa’s extreme energy crisis. There are power outages that can last up to six hours. Every day there is no electricity.

The fashion system’s expectations of him as a rising star, visible seasonally during his visits to Europe, have also been too harsh. “You almost start wanting to follow a pattern that wasn’t really designed for you. I think that’s the really overriding realization. It’s not fun, so you have to find your own way of doing things, so I come up with a strategy that balances my trade and business side with something that’s just less cruel to myself. It’s not about to give up in South Africa, but knitwear and other pieces are now outsourced to Madagascar and Italy, using a good deal of fabric from the nona deadstock sourcing platform. Source of LVMH. Already, buyers noticed the improved quality, they bought his collection in Paris.

He will likely be back next season with a full show. London was just a happy detour for the season. But the African lesson of resilience from Magugu’s video comes through loud and clear: “I love how we always re-contextualize the pain and almost reverse it,” he says. “I think it is, when you take something that destroys us, our environment and the place we live in, but then we see how we can absorb it and make it work for us. And in something which makes us proud.

Common mistakes people make when checking baggage

A traveler has revealed the three mistakes people make when checking in their suitcases that can lead to lost bags.

This year has seen chaos at airports, including staff shortages and strikes, which have seen luggage regularly go missing.

But there are ways vacationers can either avoid losing their belongings or speed up the recovery process, The sun reports.

In an article for The Washington PostChristopher Elliot explains the three things people can do to keep their luggage safe once they’ve checked it in.

Take a picture of your bag

This simple step can be very useful if your luggage goes missing after it has been checked in.

The recommendation is to take a photo of your bag from four different angles, and its contents, on your phone before each flight.

In the event of loss of baggage, passengers are required to describe what their baggage looks like and what it contains.

With so many similar cases, a photo gives a very clear description of the baggage and helps airport authorities to narrow their search field. Some airlines or airports will even ask for photos if a case goes away, so it’s best to be prepared.

Track your luggage

Fixing luggage can help people do more than just take pictures of their bags.

Using devices like AirTags, passengers can pinpoint the exact location of their baggage, which they can then pass on to airport staff members.

Christopher says luggage manufacturers are now pushing their passengers to use tracking devices.

He wrote: “Luggage manufacturers openly encourage their customers to track their luggage. Samsara Baggage, for example, offers a small pocket for an AirTag in some of their bags.

Have proof that the baggage has been checked in

“The more information you provide to your airline, the faster they can find your missing baggage,” says Christopher.

Airlines will issue passengers with a barcoded baggage tag once their baggage has been checked in.

This tag can help identify any lost luggage, so it is important that passengers hold their side of the tag until they collect their luggage.

However, the barcode will also provide the airline with important information about the bag and its intended route.

Without this, the staff will only have the details on which the passenger needs to proceed.

Best prop bets for Chargers vs Browns Week 5 (Target this returning TE)

The LA Chargers are on the road in Week 5 as the team takes on the Cleveland Browns in a rematch of last year’s Instant Classic in Week 5. The Bolts won that game 47-42 at home and as great as it is to watch, Chargers fans are hoping for a less stressful game.

Both of these teams look different than they did a year ago. Under center for Cleveland this year is Jacoby Brissett, who will start until Deshaun Watson returns. As for the Chargers, the run defense has been rebuilt and hopes not to have the same kind of show as last season.

We’ve already given our picks for both the against the spread and the over/under and with the match fast approaching, now is the time to give away some winning prop bets for the contest.

Somehow that line has gone down to where it was originally at 24.5 points earlier in the week. The LA Chargers will be without Keenan Allen, which seems to scare off most bettors, but the team has learned to function without him on offense.

More importantly, all trends point to an easy win over the Chargers’ team total. Cleveland allowed an average of 23.8 points per game against the quarterback assortment of Baker Mayfield, Joe Flacco, Mitch Trubisky and Marcus Mariota. Two of those quarterbacks aren’t even starters anymore and the other two are probably the two worst starters in the league.

It’s hard to imagine an offense led by Justin Herbert scoring fewer runs than the Browns allow on average, especially since the Bolts have scored 24 or more points in three of four games. The only exception was Herbert’s first game after his rib injury.

Cleveland is going to beat the rock in this game and even though the Chargers take a big lead, the Browns aren’t going to deviate from the game plan. They see a perceived weakness in the Chargers, who also have a good secondary full of ball hawks.

Kevin Stefanski is a good coach and he knows what part of the defense the Browns should be challenging in this game. For this reason, Brissett’s underrun total seems the most likely. Brissett is averaging 207.5 passing yards per game this season.

It was actually at +850 earlier in the week and has fallen down to +550, which should tell you something. Donald Parham returns from injury and plays his first game of the season with the Chargers. Parham has great chemistry with Justin Herbert, especially in the red zone.

Gerald Everett potentially not playing in the game (or being limited if he is playing) is going to give Parham more of a chance to find the end zone. Keenan Allen not playing also helps Parham’s chances, as Allen is usually another red zone sellout.

Parham scored a touchdown against the Browns last season and with the added factors, +550 is pretty good value. He’s almost destined to score at least one touchdown in each of the next three games, so if you take him every game until he hits, you’ll be making a profit.

Parham’s choice is obviously less likely, but if you were to use these three Chargers-Browns props on FanDuel Sportsbook, you’d get odds of +1712 (17/1). A $20 bet would return $342.40.

Game odds are updated periodically and are subject to change.

Hope For Flowers Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

As mini hems, sheer textiles and crop tops sweep the Spring 2023 runways, Tracy Reese at Hope for Flowers is in a more chaste mood. His previous collection showed several silhouettes with peekaboo bellies, but on reflection, Reese says goodbye to all that (for now). “When I really looked at what was selling, it was more modest,” Reese says. “I want to create clothes that people love and will wear over and over again. I don’t want to get too caught up in trends. Part of working more responsibly is making sure I make clothes you’ll want to wear. in four or five years. I never want to lose sight of that.

As Reese explains, her core clientele comes to her for lunch and cocktail-ready blouses and dresses, and Spring 2023 offers many of these classics in an array of patterns and fabrics. Silhouettes – mostly of the trapeze, wrap and slip variety – are workhorses, but with a twist in details such as cutout embroidery or patchwork prints. The closest thing to a fashion trend are wide leg pants with cargo pockets, but they’re streamlined enough that the customer will want to keep them when the pendulum swings back to tapered styles.

Lufthansa bans AirTags in checked baggage – Airways Magazine

DALLAS- Several reports have surfaced in recent days that Lufthansa (LH) has banned the carriage of Apple’s AirTag tracking device in checked baggage.

Because it allows passengers to track the location of their checked baggage after check-in, the small tracking device has become a popular addition to many travelers’ checked baggage contents.

Many of us have experienced the feeling of being at baggage claim when the conveyor belt suddenly stops and your bag is nowhere to be found. I experienced a similar situation earlier this year after arriving on a flight in Europe, and even before I registered my bag as missing, I could tell it was still at the point of departure.

When my bag finally arrived, I tracked its progress and was able to drive to the airport and describe exactly where my bag was in the airport to the airline agent who served me.

Airlines are starting to realize that this tracking device allows us to confirm that our bag is missing before we even leave the gate. A friend who is a captain in another major European carrier recently told me how he was preparing for a pushback and the cabin crew relayed an unusual message from a passenger on board.

He was told that a passenger claimed his checked baggage was not on board and needed to be loaded or he would unload himself. A situation that could easily turn a flight that was supposed to leave on time into a flight that is now delayed.

Role of IATA

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) sets the rules for what can and cannot be carried on board and publishes them in its “Dangerous Goods Regulations” manual. If an existing IATA policy is deemed insufficiently robust, airlines may make minor changes to their own policies. Regarding the carriage of portable electronic devices, Lufthansa’s passenger advice mirrors that of IATA.

Without going into detail about the battery that powers the AirTag, IATA policy unequivocally states that “devices in checked baggage must be turned off completely.” This phrase appears to be what Lufthansa uses to justify banning passengers from checking baggage with AirTag devices inside.

During the recent peak travel season in Europe, staffing shortages at airports and within airlines separated many passengers from their checked baggage. IATA’s dangerous goods rules for transporting portable electronic devices have not changed, nor has Lufthansa’s adherence to them.

Instead, it appears the German airline has simply lost patience with passengers who discover their luggage is missing before they reach their destination and have to deal with the resulting customer service nightmare.

Sid Neigum Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

For spring, Sid Neigum was all about shine, from the disco ball of a dress to the stunning and surprisingly heavy real padlocks that could turn a black jersey blazer into a lockdown situation. (Seriously. Fortunately, a key is included).

“I love the contrast of grounding a heavily draped jersey with material,” the designer offered. “It’s almost like it’s getting too pretty, so I have to add something that gives it an edge.”

In contrast, its cleverly double-inverted pleat pieces are now made entirely from recycled ocean plastic. These caught the light with a soft sheen, fusing on-trend dressing – in lime, white or fuchsia pink and red – with great packability.

Neigum has also revisited its love of transparency, now replacing the old bead grids with small, sharp silver studs, just to shake things up a bit. Elsewhere, a black bow from a top was sheer, structured and without studs. The result of an experiment with AI imagery, it was a compelling argument to elevate horsehair from lining material to red carpet. (“If it was red, you could use it as a gift on a car,” the designer joked.)

Neigum fans love a clever cutout, but this season he “got aggressive about it.” During a visit to the showroom, the supports covered a range from a wisp of a white Tension top, paired here with an oversized suit, to a form-fitting warm orange number with an infinity-shaped peephole, to an all-sequin dress in shifting sunset hues, anchored by one of the designer’s signature triple-loop twists.

As concise as it is, this season’s proposal will speak to Neigum’s base. As a young indie with a loyal following, he’s had his fair share of Instagram fame followed by copy issues, so he feels staying ahead of the game is the only way forward. Right now he is focusing on upgrading. It will be interesting to see where this leads.

7 evening outfits and the accessories that suit them best

FFinding the perfect evening outfit can sometimes be a struggle in itself. Naturally, you want something that makes you feel elegant, sexy, and feminine. But just as crucial as finding the perfect number, the accessories you choose to pair it with can make or break your final look. You might be tempted to stick to your favorite jewelry or reliable heels when wearing formal clothesbut take the extra time to think carefully about how best to highlight the important features of your outfit, which will enhance your look tenfold.

When it comes to evening wear accessories, what works for one outfit won’t necessarily work for another. Indeed, the design, details, style, etc. all come into play, posing a challenge to beginners. However, it doesn’t have to be difficult. The key is to consider the “elements” of your evening attire, then select the accessories that complement it. For example, a very ornate outfit, especially in the neck area, can do without a statement necklace. On the other hand, big jewelry says it all when paired with a simple dress.

Plus, you’ll need to consider the overall vibe of your ensemble, because if you’re aiming for a minimalist approach, your accessories need to dance to the same tune. That said, there is one important thing to remember with evening wear accessories when it comes to the outfit itself: the neckline. This may be the first place to look when considering what jewelry to pair with your outfit, as a deep V and a cowl neck don’t necessarily require the same necklace. Lucky for you, we’ve got you covered.

Here are 7 common necklines and the evening accessories to pair with them…

#1. The V

A dress with a V-neckline leaves plenty of empty space for you to adorn it with your finest necklaces. You want to complement the cut instead of selecting something that will catch your neckline. A long pendant is an elegant option for this style of dress. It draws the eye to the neckline while giving the area a more defined look. Experiment with different chain lengths to keep your pendant from reaching your neckline. Ideally, it should come just above your chest.

#2. Strapless

A strapless dress leaves your arms and upper chest exposed. Plus, it usually has a specially designed neckline to add an extra element to the overall look. For this reason, it would be best to avoid covering the dress with jewelry and allow it to speak for itself. Instead, opt for a statement pair of earrings, preferably something reasonably dramatic. They will do a great job of framing your face, elongating your neck, and letting your dress shine as the perfect complement to this alluring style.

#3. off-the-shoulder

Off the shoulder evening wear usually comes in two styles. Either both shoulders will be exposed or it will be a one shoulder design. If both shoulders are exposed, use the same ideas as a strapless dress by wearing bold earrings to frame the look. On the other hand, if there are additional details on the top of the item, consider a simpler pair of earrings to complement but not overpower the style. If your dress is one-shoulder, match an eye-catching bracelet to the wrist that is uncovered. This accentuates the uneven nature of the dress, which is a feature you want to highlight, not downplay.

#4. Lover

A sweetheart neckline is a built-in style feature on its own. But, unlike most fashion advice that recommends against matching jewelry with a busy neckline, it’s quite the opposite. When styled correctly, this sexy design becomes fashion chic. You can choose a pair of elegant and sophisticated earrings, preferably ones that don’t dangle, to add little drama to your look. But, by far, the best option is a chunky necklace. Something short enough to draw attention to your face but not a choker. At no time should the choker and your dress overlap.

#5. Halter

A halter dress is naturally very busy around the neckline. However, your statement pieces should not be necklaces or earrings as they will create too much to look around your face. Instead, focus your attention on bracelets, bangles, and rings. Depending on your personal style, you can choose one or two trendy bracelets with a ring set to complete your look. Alternatively, you can stack gold or silver bracelets for a more dramatic effect, as long as you don’t mind the clicking noise.

#6. Tank

Tank dresses are designed to flaunt long, loose lines and create an airy feel to your style. Chunky chunky jewelry will completely neutralize this effect and make your outfit look heavy and overdone. Instead, choose a simple pair of dainty earrings or an equally dainty necklace and turn your attention to rings. You don’t need to wear one on each finger, but adorning your hands with multiple bands and gemstones will give you elegance without weighing you down.

#seven. Crew

If you’re not familiar with what a crew dress style is, it’s when your entire upper body is covered in fabric. Sometimes it is an embellished fabric like lace or simply an extension of the fabric of the dress itself. Typically, the dress is balanced with a shorter hemline, but you can easily find full skirt options. This style of dress is exquisite but can look quite monotonous. To make this easier, consider layered necklaces. Again, nothing too chunky or extravagant, but two or three complementary chains will create something interesting to look at without taking away the shine from the dress itself.

Editor’s Finds Shop

You can still use these additional accessories…

While jewelry seems the natural option to turn to when it comes to evening wear accessories, it’s certainly not the only option. The simple fact is that there are people who don’t like wearing jewelry or prefer to show off their outfits in other ways. In this case, pay attention to hair, makeup, shoes and handbags. Add pops of color with fun heels or choose a clutch with an exciting pattern to pair with a dress with a simple design. The only rule here is not to accessorize too much.. They should not compete with each other or dominate other items you are wearing. Less is always more in this department.

ACT Beauty France, a merger of companies for a global service offer

Premium Beauty News – What is the positioning of the company, now that you have merged and changed your name?

Cyril Dauvers – I always knew that ACT Import was a nugget, and that it had real development potential, in particular thanks to its strong presence in the beauty industry, which I did not reach with MPP My Planet Packaging . By merging the two companies, we have developed a global approach to services – retail accessories, luxury packaging, luggage and fashion accessories – with a more glamorous name: ACT Beauty France.

The packaging expertise of MPP My Planet Packaging has helped ACT Beauty France winning markets in cosmetic accessories, thanks to 100% recycled materials. As packaging is complementary and present throughout the value chain of the products marketed by ACT Beauty Franceit was logical and rational to merge the two companies.

Premium Beauty News – Your design division has gone from two to seven employees in less than two years. What are your expectations?

Cyril Dauvers – In effect! In a year and a half, we have recruited fifteen people, including five in the design department. We also opened an office in New York, with an employee on site to strengthen our local presence. We had great success at Luxe Pack New York, MakeUp in Los Angeles and Cosmoprof Las Vegas.

As for the design department, since we completed our team of designers, stylists and artistic directors, we have been able to respond to very complex requests in packaging, accessories or luggage. From now on, we can offer our customers turnkey solutions, from creation to delivery.

Premium Beauty News – You recently created a range of eco-responsible make-up accessories called Éco Essentielle. The handles of the brushes are made from recycled computer keyboards. What message do you want to convey with this creation?

Cyril Dauvers – In fact, it goes far beyond sending a message. It shows our customers that we are committed. Indeed, we always try to integrate eco-responsible initiatives into our proposals. Whenever possible, we choose cleaner and more responsible recycled materials.

For these 100% recycled brushes with vegan bristles, we teamed up with professional makeup artists who did a great job in terms of gesture analysis. We have just unveiled a superb collection: I hope it will have the success it deserves!

Kiko Kostadinov PFW SS23 by Laura and Deanna Fanning

Twin designer duo Laura and Deanna Fanning are the brains behind Kiko Kostadinov’s womenswear and are increasingly becoming influential figures in the world of Kostadinov’s footwear and accessories. The house’s Trivia bag has become a bit of a viral sensation, with everyone from fashion editors to Iris Law and Bella Hadid sporting one recently, while teasers online have seen the duo enter the world of the heavier-than-ever collaboration with the Kiko Kostadinov x HYSTERIC GLAMOR x ASICS preview. These moments seem to inform the overall taste level of Kiko Kostadinov’s output – you can be assured that menswear will follow the path of the Fanning sisters. Today, as part of Paris Fashion Week, the duo presented their Spring-Summer 2023 collection.

Although this is a collection focused on womenswear, it’s clear to see the crossovers that are likely to occur in menswear to retain that sense of brand unity and harmony. Take unconventional cowboy boots (a key trend this season, like Molly Goddard); white or black leather makes up the bootie, but when it comes to the upper, the Fannings opt for a transparent mesh-like material before embroidering it with stars, moons and more.

Similarly, a pair of ballerina type sneakers lace up to the knee and have a very similar quality to ASICS in the toe and sole area, but this cannot yet be fully deciphered. Either way, it’s a shape that’s also trending on the runway, which should seep into other fashion sides later on.

What’s most notable about this collection is how an androgynous thread is woven into the pieces, making it hard to see it too different from what Kiko Kostadinov might produce for his menswear. Take the stitched black work trousers, that beautifully studded black waistcoat and the off-the-shoulder moment served up by the green and brown checkered sweater – each functioning in their own right as excellent genderless fashion pieces.

The shimmering pink scarf – which happens to be a sweater – is a great style exercise for many, while a slew of new handbags promise Kiko Kostadinov’s future handbag supremacy isn’t going anywhere. Take a look at Laura and Deanna Fanning’s Kiko Kostadinov SS23 collection above, and check out more PFW SS23 content on Hypebeast.

Football news LIVE: Chelsea ‘close to agreeing’ £53m deal for Haaland Man City future Nkunku – Reuters Sports News

“I’m not sexy… no Lamborghinis on order”

Graham Potter has the job, the pay packet and a smart new blue tracksuit but still can’t imagine, written ANDY DILLON.

In his former job as Brighton boss, Potter claimed he would never be a “sexy” Premier League manager.

Tomorrow he will take charge of his first Premier League games as Chelsea head coach – considered one of the most important jobs in football, regardless of the associated risks.

Despite the glitz and glamor that comes with the £10m-a-year salary, old Potter is happy as he is.

He said: “I very rarely feel sexy. Maybe you do, but I very rarely do.

“I’m smart enough to know that I started at the lower level, below the lower level and after a process of trial and error and a lot of hard work and a lot of luck and help from other people than I have this item.

“It’s a pretty fantastic achievement and something I’m really proud of, but at the same time I’m a human being and certainly not perfect and I don’t think I’ve cracked anything, that’s not to say I got all the answers.

“There are no Lamborghinis on order – I’m driving the same car as when I picked it up in England on my return to Swansea.

“My life hasn’t changed at all, if I’m being honest. Besides living in a different place, I always try to prepare for matches, do the job I’m in and prepare for the challenge ahead.”

Alessandra Rich Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

For her return to the catwalks, Alessandra Rich opted for the typically Parisian restaurant Maxim’s, whose dark red Belle Epoque interiors (carpeting, sumptuous, dim lighting from original Art Nouveau chandeliers) still have a flavor of chic decadence. “I thought it was the perfect setting for my collection, because it’s a place where people come to enjoy life, have fun, and play the dating game,” Rich said in what was certainly the the most voluptuous backstage of the season.

The collection was called Let’s Kiss and, to make it clear, fiery red lipsticks in little red boxes were placed on each seat. Then the stage was left to an undulating stream of skimpy and sassy little numbers that were impossibly short and tight, followed by a parade of midriff-baring crop tops variously paired with the company’s lowest flares (Rich called them rather aptly “cheeky”), or with sexy high-waisted bikini briefs, or miniskirts as indistinguishable as a microchip.

A slightly wiser proposition was a series of flowing, curvy floral chiffon slipdresses that looked deceptively romantic, as their sheerness left little to the imagination. “It’s all about fake innocence, she’s just pretending to be an ingenue,” Rich said of his inveterate flirt. “But she wants to have fun being a real provocative.”

Man charged with accessory to murder in Kansas City

Prosecutors have charged a 21-year-old man with complicity in murder in the murder of John L. Greer, a 23-year-old man gunned down in the Linwood-Homeowners-Ivanhoe neighborhood of Kansas City last month.

Nathaniel Carter, of Kansas City, was charged on Wednesday with accessory to second-degree murder, accessory to criminal action with a weapon, criminal action with a weapon and unlawful use of weapons, the county attorney’s office announced Thursday. of Jackson.

Carter is the second person charged in the Aug. 19 murder of Greer. Last week, prosecutors charged 22-year-old Davon D. Canady with second-degree murder and three other crimes related to the fatal shooting.

On Thursday, each man was being held in the Jackson County Jail on $250,000 bond.

Greer had been shot and killed when Kansas City police were called to a residence in the 3500 block of Wayne Avenue. He was taken by ambulance to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police they heard gunshots coming from a vacant lot up the block. Afterwards, several people were seen getting into a black Chevy Monte Carlo and taking off on Wayne Avenue.

Surveillance footage from the area captured photographs of the Monte Carlo, including its license plate number. But detectives were told by the Missouri Department of Revenue that the label was either altered or false, according to court documents.

Witnesses later told police that Greer was visiting the 3500 block of Wayne Avenue when Canady challenged him to a fight outside. Canady was in the neighborhood with Carter and another person at the time, authorities said.

Canady allegedly tried to hit Greer with a handgun, witnesses said, then handed the gun to Carter. Authorities say Carter shot Greer in the back as Canady lost the fight.

Canady then took the gun from Carter and shot Greer a second time as the injured man rushed into a residence, authorities said.

Canady was arrested by Kansas City police late Thursday morning in the 7200 block of Baltimore Avenue during a surveillance operation. He had been wanted for questioning in the Greer murder for a month, according to court documents.

Court documents Thursday did not mention a defense attorney for Canady or Carter.

Man with $160,000 at SA airport was stealing to buy drugs

A man found with nearly $162,000 in his carry-on luggage at San Antonio International Airport has been charged with money laundering, arrest records show.

Transportation Security Administration officers arrested 21-year-old Alberto Gonzalez Jr. after detecting $161,860 in his luggage as he attempted to pass through airport security on August 11.

After being referred to San Antonio police, Gonzalez told authorities the money came from his dog breeding business and that he was on his way to California to buy a diamond ring for his girlfriend.

On ExpressNews.com: We followed one of Abbott’s migrant buses from Texas to Chicago. Here’s what we learned.

Gonzalez later changed that story and said he was making a deposit with a dog breeder, according to police. Authorities also said Gonzalez’s explanation of how his dog-breeding business operated was inconsistent with how legitimate businesses operated.

Investigators took the money, which came back positive for traces of marijuana, which is illegal in Texas, as well as cocaine, police said.

Police said they believe Gonzalez will use the money to buy marijuana in California and possibly distribute it out of state.

Gonzalez had purchased his ticket to California two days prior and was scheduled to return to San Antonio the same day.

Police say this is the second time Gonzalez has traveled with “loose change” to California.

Sachin & Babi Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Spring found Sachin and Babi Ahluwalia in the middle of a colorful garden party. The Ahluwalias know who they are designing for, and for spring they have looked to their strengths: occasion wear, versatile day-to-night outfits, and the sophisticated evening wear details that have become their signature.

“We are a social brand,” Babi said. “Our clothes are designed for special moments for our ladies.” There were watercolor floral prints in brushed cottons and silks, draped column dresses in airy chiffon (cut in varying degrees of modesty to suit all of their customers, Babi said), dresses and teal and black silk moire separates, and playful mini bubble hemlines from Robes. Floral pieces brought texture and a directional daylight angle to the collection, but the Ahluwalias were at their best in the subtle details decorating their true selection of evening wear, especially the monochromatic column dresses with jewel embellishments. and the elegant black and white dresses expertly cut with bow and embellishment accents.

As playful as their clothes often are, Sachin and Babi are very pragmatic when it comes to approaching their collections. “I mean, it’s great to create the dream, but if no one lives in it, it brings me no joy,” Babi said. That’s why all of the brand’s styles are based on wearability. This attention has served them well, and it shows in the subtle details they add to even their most commercial pieces, such as smocking at the back of skirts and tops to make the customer feel comfortable. and breathe at the waist and rib cage. .

The Ahluwalias are banking on getting their clients back on the social scene and looking for the perfect dress for their next function, and with this well-edited assortment of dresses and dressy pieces, they just might find what they need right here.

US airlines forced to show ‘true cost’ of airfare, baggage and change fees

Airline tickets and the cost of travel have been described as a major problem for Americans, facing rising inflation. Photo/Ross D. Franklin, AP

President Joe Biden will announce a new initiative on Monday that would eventually allow consumers to see a fuller price on airline tickets – including baggage and change fees – before buying, as the White House continues to look for ways to reduce costs for Americans in a persistent context. high inflation.

The White House says the rule proposed by the Department of Transportation will prevent airlines from hiding the “true cost” of airfare, which would help consumers save money up front and encourage greater competition between airlines to offer better fares. The requirement will apply not only to airlines directly, but also to third-party search sites such as Kayak and Expedia.

Airlines earned nearly $9.4 billion in baggage fees and nearly $1,200 million in cancellation and change fees last year, according to figures from the Department of Transportation. Airlines charge a variety of other fees for extra legroom and other benefits that are not tracked by the government.

A trade group for the largest US airlines said carriers already disclose the terms and total cost of a ticket. “This includes transparency around taxes and government fees on airline tickets, which make up more than 20% of many domestic round-trip tickets,” said Katherine Estep, spokesperson for Airlines for America.

The proposal dates back to the Obama administration and was scrapped in 2017 by then-President Donald Trump after airlines complained it was unnecessary and would incur significant costs. It must now go through a 60-day comment period before final approval.

The proposed rule comes as tension mounts between the Biden administration and airlines, with each blaming the other for an increase in canceled and delayed flights this summer.

The Department of Transportation has also started releasing information to help consumers know what each airline offers when flights are canceled or delayed for reasons beyond the airline’s control. This prompted several airlines to update their policies regarding finding a new flight and covering hotel and meal costs for stranded travellers.

Biden was expected to make the announcement Monday afternoon at a meeting of the White House Competition Council, created last year to help his administration find cost-cutting measures for consumers. This will be the third meeting of the group, chaired by the director of the National Economic Council, Brian Deese.

At the meeting, Biden plans to push other federal agencies to take similar steps to cut costs, including increasing transparency about hidden fees that can inflate the true cost of goods and services.

One example is a Federal Communications Commission proposal that would require Internet service providers to better define fees and charges on what the administration calls a “broadband nutrition label.” And the Ministry of Agriculture will also unveil new actions on Monday to encourage competition in various agricultural markets.

The administration has taken similar action on bank and credit card fees, which the White House says saved consumers $3 billion a year compared to before the Covid-19 pandemic. 19.

Bottega Veneta Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Matthieu Blazy is the real deal. It can be hard to experience a sensational debut, but he did it, and then some at Bottega Veneta tonight. To start, he created a fabulous scene by enlisting 82-year-old Italian design pioneer Gaetano Pesce to create a site-specific installation that included a colorful, swirling cast resin floor and 400 unique chairs. As the crowd filled the space, it felt like a real stage. Cicciolina walked around, Erykah Badu posed for photos, Kirsten Dunst and Kodi Smit-McPhee chatted with friends, and Pesce soaked it all up from the front row.

Unique is the key word here. Behind the scenes, Blazy said, “The collection started with meeting Gaetano. I often went to visit him in New York and we talked a lot about diversity. He worked on his side and I worked from mine and we did a juxtaposition. The idea was ‘the world in a little room.’ We went all out,” he continued. “The idea was to portray different characters and put them in Gaetano’s landscape.”

In clearer terms, what Blazy seemed to mean was the wardrobe concept. Her ambition is not to dress celebrities on the red carpet, although celebrities will surely come. Nor is it to enter the major haute couture shows, although that is also a future possibility. What Blazy wants to do is dress his customers for every occasion, and aren’t we luckier?

Picking up the thread from last season, the opening looks, while resembling denim, flannel and cotton t-shirts, were all leather. Modeled by Kate Moss herself, a flannel shirt required 12 layers of prints to achieve the depth of color Blazy sought. “It’s that kind of casual comfort and we take it to the extreme and call it perverted banality,” he said.

Blazy also revisited the “dynamic” silhouette he established last season, exaggerating the sense of movement in clothing by adding what could be described as fins to the back of the pant legs. Likewise, the storm flaps of the trench coats seemed to have caught a breeze and stayed there. Curved funnel necklines on jackets and shirts gave them a clean profile. These are subtle details, but if incomprehensible to the uninitiated, they mean a lot to fashion obsessives who are watching for such changes. Blazy has these people’s attention.

This was a very purposeful collection, a reminder in a Milan Fashion Week that included shaky beginnings of the importance of experience. Blazy has plenty of that, and it shows in every aspect of this collection, including the jacquard dresses and separate pieces – “very technical,” he said, “but the results are not technical, they’re emotional” — and in the Pesce-inspired colorway-inspired fringed finale dress trio. “It’s a new technique where you weave with fringes integrated into the fabric and they are all knitted by hand. It’s also very technical,” he laughed. About these distinctive Pesce chairs, they will be sold at Design Miami. We inquired about the price and were quoted low five figures. It’s not officially official, but now you know.

Is there a problem with Lamar Jackson’s throwing arm?

Senior NFL reporter Charles Robinson is joined by Jori Epstein and Charles McDonald, the latest additions to Yahoo Sports’ NFL family. Our NFL trio discuss the alarming news from Baltimore on Wednesday, as the Ravens superstar quarterback wore a sleeve over his throwing arm and didn’t attempt a pass during practice. The Ravens head coach dismissed the day off as an interview for Jackson, but our reporters aren’t buying it. Listen to the full conversation on the You Pod to Win the Game podcast. Video transcript

CHARLES ROBINSON: Lamar Jackson. So today I wanted to talk about it, because it definitely made me frown. 25, just turned 25 in January I believe, comes out to practice today wearing a sleeve over his throwing arm. Which, beatwriters… you were both beatwriters.

Charles, you’re outside, you’re watching, you’re watching the Jets. Jori there, you watch the Cowboys, you see the quarterback come out with a sleeve over his arm and not pitch at all during the media part of practice. It will raise red flags. Well, it turns out Lamar Jackson didn’t pitch at all today in practice. And they describe it as maintenance.

John Harbaugh came out and sounded like hey, not a big deal, just sort of an in-season thing. I call [BLEEP] on that. Because he’s a 25-year-old guy, we’re two weeks into the season. It’s a bit early to do the maintenance of the throwing arm of a 25-year-old. And in a season where Lamar A, lights it up, and I’m sure he will continue to light it up.

But B, we’re also still in the throes of this surge for the next contract, which is going to be a massive deal. I’m just curious about your experience, I’ll throw it at you, Charles. Like, in your experience, no matter how the team paints it at this point, an inning is an inning and a guy not pitching on a Wednesday is always troubling to me. Especially when, as I said, 25 years old. And not someone who hasn’t started. This is not a new situation for him. You would expect this player to pitch on a Wednesday.

CHARLES MCDONALD: Yeah, that… I feel like teams aren’t, well, they’re not being honest a lot. But especially when it comes to their quarterback situations. I think they can certainly tend to throw some [BLEEP] up to you and see what you put out there.

Because I remember when I was… my first year covering the Giants was, when I came to the Daily News, Eli Manning’s last year there. And Daniel Jones had started a few games. And Daniel Jones, I think he got injured at the end of the season. And if you talked to Daniel, he would say, oh, you know, I’m fine. I’m ready to go back.

But for the rest of the team, or at least Eli and the Giants, Daniel was injured just long enough for Eli to get another home start at MetLife Stadium. I think they won against the Miami Dolphins that year. So I think in a normal world where that… you didn’t have a legend sitting behind you, maybe Daniel could have been there.

But they gave Eli one last moment. So I don’t really think you should take teams at face value when it comes to quarterbacking stuff. Especially with Lamar on Sunday. I mean, it was probably one of the best games of his career. Throw the ball, run the ball. And for him, just showing up on the injury report or being out there without throwing definitely raises a bit of a red flag. Because it’s also one of those times where you think, well, when did this happen in the game? Because–

CHARLES MCDONALD: — really at no time did you show that you were hurt, because you absolutely tortured Dolphins for four quarters.

JORI EPSTEIN: Absolutely. And I think that’s– age is so important to me here. Like, 25 years old. It’s not Tom Brady at 45. Here is Tom Brady taking off on Wednesdays. One, absolutely, your body is in a different place. And two, you’ve seen so much in this league than what to expect. Your body has decades of muscle memory. But I don’t think it should happen at 25.

I mean, I spent most of my time with the Cowboys and I remember towards the end of the 2019 season, Dak had a minor shoulder injury. I think he got it against the Rams, coming into the Eagles game. And it was the first time in four seasons that he didn’t participate fully in training. And the other thing is that there are a lot of times in the league, and I guess it depends a bit, Thursday is really the busiest day in training. So if you don’t practice on Wednesday when it’s so easy to be light, then I’d be worried.

I’m also looking at Lamar’s attempts over the past two weeks. And as crazy as that game was against the Dolphins, I mean he attempted 30 passes in week one and 29 in week two, so it’s not like he’s going to throw 50 passes in a double overtime game and then need a break. So – and it’s not like it’s week 14 of the season, and you’re just trying to go all the way and you clinch your playoff spot. So I think that’s definitely unusual and not just some type of maintenance. And if it’s maintenance, what does that say about Lamar’s durability? Which, I think it has durability.

Richard Quinn Spring 2023 Ready-to-Wear Collection

Most likely, Queen Elizabeth II granted Richard Quinn one last favor. Her outpouring of response to her death prompted the designer of colorful, multi-floral prints to prove, in her homage, that he too can do so painstakingly and abundantly in black. The first 22 looks, many of which were heavily veiled in black lace, were carried out by Quinn and her team of six and 20 show assistants, day and night, in the 10 days following the Queen’s death. “It was a real labor of love, I guess.

It was almost cathartic for us to put all of our grieving emotions into it,” he said. “We wanted him to have that kind of real craftsmanship, the beauty of royalty, and try to turn all the shapes and embroidery that we do into that kind of uniform idea that they did when his dad [King George VI] deceased.”

Quinn, of course, owes the late monarch more than any other designer in London fashion history, since she came to her first show in 2018 and presented him with the first annual Queen Elizabeth II award. for design, its legacy for emerging designers. fashion designers in Britain. He changed up the decor he had planned, draping the walls in black and playing snippets of video footage from his youth on screens embedded in a central suspended installation.

“What you saw there was her with her corgis, interacting with animals and nature. There’s even a moment when she’s in the coronation car, and she doesn’t know she’s being filmed, she’s giggling and joking with Prince Philip, and suddenly she’s ready again. So, in that way, it was breaking that barrier, wanting to mourn the real her.

He pulled out all the stops on multiple silhouettes for this section: black swing coats, his translations of fitted 50s evening dresses, vast lurex capes, velvet tunic dress with a big sparkling jewel brooch. All of the models’ faces were either completely obscured by floor-length lace veils or obscured by point d’esprit netting. Under one of them, a tiny black crown was visible.

And then, well, it was off with part two: the show that should have been. This had been planned by Quinn to be revolved around a concept of public surveillance. There were CCTV cameras bristling with the central “chandelier”. Queen’s video screens switched to live footage from the audience. Then came renditions of multicolored bulbous bodysuits, her signature floral coats, feathered polka dot embroidery, a pair of bejeweled short capes.

Understandable if that party didn’t have the chance, or the power of the workshop to make their point fully. All of Richard Quinn’s young minds and hands had been dedicated to proving themselves equal to show up at a historic moment. The black put him in the shade, in a good way. The finale, however, brought back the veil of lace in a hopeful way: a bride, in white, with a huge spray of flowers. Weddings have become a mainstay of her business since Elizabeth II gave her her first push. He can also thank her for that.

Sustainable Fashion Awards finalist Themoirè launches shoes at MFW – WWD

MILAN — Francesca Monaco and Salar Bicheranloo found out they were among the finalists for the Italian fashion chamber’s Sustainable Fashion Awards almost by chance, according to a news article one sunny July morning.

The founders of Themoirè — a Milan-based accessories brand that aims to have the lowest possible environmental impact — are up for The Bicester Collection Award for Emerging Designers, one of 12 awards to be presented at La Scala theater here during a ceremony organized by Rossy de Palma on Sunday.

In the category, the duo will compete against sustainable brand Nkwo and fashion house Torlowei – both from Nigeria – for a chance to win mentorship and production and distribution opportunities.

“The fact that finalists can be selected in all categories and not just accessories makes me even prouder,” said Monaco.

Still, all the awards buzz plays only a small part in marking a special edition of Milan Fashion Week for the brand. This season, the founders will expand their offering of eco-friendly handbags to launch their first footwear line via a capsule collection to be unveiled at Themoirè’s Spring 2023 presentation, taking place at the city’s Galleria Riviera on Wednesday.

Although this isn’t the first time the brand has created a capsule collection – in the past it has done so for categories such as trench coats and jewelry – Monaco says Themoirè shoes are here to stay.

The debut shoe collection will feature three styles, each coming in two variations, ranging from platform mules in PU leather and recycled cork to straw options.

The style of Lyra shoes.

The range will reflect the founders’ approach to bags, where they work with natural, recycled or alternative materials for all aspects of the product, from lining and threads to labels and packaging.

“But it’s much more difficult to make shoes: there are a lot of different components, you need the right partner and the suppliers require very high minimum orders,” noted Monaco, who said the pair were working on the project for a year. She also highlighted the importance of maintaining the brand’s accessible positioning, revealing that prices for the shoes will range from around 250 euros to 550 euros.

Seeking to reconcile all these aspects, the duo did not find the right partner in Italy, but relied on a Greek manufacturer for the shoes. “We are sad because we would have liked to keep everything in Italy, but we just haven’t found the right value for money here,” said Monaco.

The Adilia shoe model.

“The truth is that it’s very easy to make an expensive product, but combining quality, an eco-responsible approach, design and a good price is a whole different story,” echoed Bicheranloo.

A Mexican designer with 15 years of experience in designing handbags, Bicheranloo founded his first brand, Salar, in 2009. Trendier and still in business, the Salar label “follows a different path, with four collections presented per year “.

“But in 2019 we asked ourselves, ‘Why are we doing this? and wondered about the pace of this industry,” Monaco recalled. “We wanted to engage in a responsible project for the planet and the communities, not defined as sustainable because it is impossible. We didn’t want to impose these notions on the brand we had because it would have looked more like a marketing move, so we opted for a side project,” said Monaco.

Themoirè’s debut collection instantly caught the eye of buyers, who confirmed orders even though the first delivery coincided with the COVID-19 outbreak in February 2020. There was growing interest in eco-conscious brands.

While Monaco and Bicheranloo focus on timeless designs, opting for vintage-dyed clutches and geometric tote bags that might live longer in customers’ closets, they are constantly researching new materials, which is the most hard about their job.

Until now, Themoirè uses four main categories of materials: natural ones, such as cork, cotton, raffia, wood and straw; recycled options like nylon yarn, post-consumer denim and eco-fur; water-based polyurethane leather and innovative alternatives including fabrics derived from the Nopal cactus, pineapple leaves, apple waste and orange peel, to name a few.

“There’s so much experimentation from suppliers, they’re really trying to do new things but sometimes they’re just not ready for the market,” Monaco said. “Furthermore, not everything can work and meet our needs. Many options are suitable for clothing, others for automotive,” she added, citing fabric derived from apple waste as inadequate when developing shoes, for example.

“The research is the hardest part, also because it’s a circle. The more we use these alternatives, the more money suppliers have to invest and adjust,” echoed Bicheranloo. “But it also depends on the consumers. For one, there’s a fungus-based material that’s great, but costs more than leather. I can make a bag out of this, but will people ever figure out its price?

Another challenge is balancing what is available with their creative drive. “Usually these materials are available in a limited range of colors, so developing a different collection is not an easy task either,” Monaco confirmed.

The Feronia bag by Themoirè.

Still, the clean aesthetics and brand communication helped to improve the perception of the product. If the average price of a bag is around 270 euros, Themoirè is available in 230 outlets worldwide on the high-end positioning, including Rinascente and LuisaViaRoma in Italy, and at Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman in the United States, where the brand was launched last year.

Italy remains the leading market, followed by the rest of Europe and the United States. The Middle East is catching up with major wholesalers placing large orders in Dubai, while Monaco has been particularly impressed with the brand’s performance in Greece.

In 2021, the brand totaled 2 million euros in sales, doubling the sales generated the previous year.

“A stand-alone store can wait,” said Bicheranloo when asked about future distribution plans. “We work with a limited stock and having a store would mean also developing a strategy to compensate for what we are doing from an environmental point of view.…It would be in Milan, but it would represent more of a communication tool, rather than a key for Sales. But if that’s its purpose, it’s too big an investment, we’d rather communicate the brand in another way,” he said.

The couple’s alternative approach includes social initiatives. On the one hand, during Milan Fashion Week, the company will unveil the second chapter of Together by Themoirè, a series of projects intended to create a dialogue between the artisan communities and the brand as well as to highlight minorities in need.

After connecting with a Mexican community in Oxchuc, Chiapas, the founders traveled to Madagascar for the second iteration of the project. Here, they co-created raffia bags with local artisans, honoring their traditional techniques and carrying out a dedicated on-site campaign to raise awareness of their personal stories. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the capsule collection will be donated to a local charity project.

In general, Themoirè donates a percentage of its profits to organizations also committed to the fight against climate change and plants a tree for each bag sold in partnership with TreeNation.

The best hand luggage in the UK 2022

It’s a rookie mistake many of us have been guilty of – carrying luggage that’s too big, too heavy, or too uncomfortable to carry. I’m ashamed to admit that despite having worked in the travel industry for over 10 years, I recently, and accidentally, overpacked my hand luggage on an Australia-London flight. Much to the frustration of my fellow Qatar Airlines passengers, I had to go through the embarrassing rush of throwing what I could grab from our check-in suitcases. All that time spent organizing was wiped out in a moment of panic.

“It’s an easy mistake to make,” says aviation expert Jordan Rozario. “Especially since there is no industry-standard carry-on baggage allowance, and that’s where many travelers get caught.”

If, like me, you were surprised at check-in, you’ll know that the wrong carry-on can ruin a trip before it even begins. That’s why thought and research are needed to choose the right hand luggage for your flight – even more so than a check-in suitcase. To save you the administration, we’ve listed the best UK hand luggage options along with our top tips for choosing the right style for your trip.

Which bag is best for carry-on luggage?

As mentioned in our guide to the best suitcases in 2022, for carry-on luggage, we prefer soft-shell suitcases over hard-shell suitcases, as they tend to be more generous in terms of space. Some styles also have easy-to-reach exterior storage pockets that can be useful during transport. While it may be easier to fit more items in soft-shell suitcases, you should be careful not to exceed your airline’s weight limit and carry-on dimensions.

How much hand luggage can you take with easyJet?

According to easyJet cabin baggage guide, the maximum size of hand luggage that can be placed under the seat is 45 x 36 x 20 cm (including handles or wheels). If you book a seat in the front or with more legroom or if you book a large piece of hand luggage for your flight, you may also have an additional bag to store in the overhead compartment, the size of which does not exceed 56 x 45 x 25 cm. To optimize your luggage while respecting the allowance, try the Tripp Superlite Tote for a bag under the seat. For the top compartment bag, The Aerolite cabin bag fits these exact dimensions and is one of the lightest cases on the market.

How much hand luggage can you take with Ryanair?

According to Ryanair Baggage Policy, all types of passenger fares can bring a small bag which must fit under the seat and measure less than 40x25x20cm. If you purchase a “Priority and 2 cabin bags” fare, passengers can bring a small bag to slide under the seat and a 10 kg wheeled bag which must not exceed 55 x 40 x 20 cm. This American Tourister case fits these exact dimensions and is available in a range of colors.

The best lightweight cabin suitcase

In terms of size, weight, price, design and fast delivery, Aerolite’s cabin suitcase (available on Amazon) ticks all the boxes. The dimensions of the case match most airline allowances including British Airways and easyJet, while the weight of the case is a very light 2.3kg. Of all the features, it’s the two outer pockets that make this one a winner, plus it’s excellent value for money at £99.

The best luxury carry-on

Leave it to Bric’s to create the most beautiful and functional carry-on on the market. The historic brand manufactures travel bags and leather goods from the Lake Como region since the 1950s. Their carry-on suitcase is a smaller version of their Bellagio suitcase, featuring a lightweight Makrolon® polycarbonate shell as well as vegetable-tanned leather trimmings that not only look stylish, but also help prevent scuffs. The interior of the lined briefcase includes organization pockets, a padded laptop sleeve, a garment bag hook and space for three hangers. As with all Brics luggage, the Bellagio suitcase comes with a five-year warranty.

The best carry-on bags for the weekend

If you just need a suitcase for weekend breaks, look for durable, roomy styles with trolley wheels that can handle pesky cobbled streets. This Eastpak cabin suitcase has nifty adjustable straps on the outside so you can make sure your luggage fits within the allotted size. For a case that can handle on-road and off-road journeys, the Thule Aion has oversized rear wheels that can easily slide over rough terrain.
